A second crash truck at the airport is this 1980 International S/Baker that has foam and 900 pounds of Dry Chem.



It previously was Duck, North Carolina's brush truck. Prior to that it ran with a NC power company.

Lot's of water surrounds the Dare County airport.



The FD uses this rescue boat (1994) towed by a 1995 Chevrolet.

Manns Harbor is Station 18 in Dare County and is located about 10 miles outside of Manteo and Roanoke Island.



I visited the FD in 2002.





Engine 182 is this 1989 Chevrolet that was built by EEI in 1991. 1000/1000

Engine 183 at Manns Harbor is this 1986 Ford C/FMC 1000/1000 with serial number 6206.

An old US Army truck serves as the basis for Manns Harbor's Brush 18.

I have no info on Manns Harbor's equipment truck.

Today's posts will finish with Stumpy Point.



This is the only Dare County FD that I have never visited. I believe Chris said he went to the Stumpy Point to photograph the station and that it is a nice drive.....but far.



Stumpy Point was chartered in 1975 and is located nearly 20 miles away from the nearest mutual aid FD. They cover 93 square miles, which includes two US Government bombing ranges (please don't hit those old fire trucks on the range) and 25 miles of deep water canals. Stumpy point has about 210 residents and over 100 homes.



I have managed to obtain some apparatus photos from Stumpy Point.



First up is this 1977 Ford C/Howe/Grumman 1000/1000. Not sure where this originally saw service.

Stumpy Point has obtained a pumper from the Buxton, NC FD (also located in Dare County - we will profile them later).

We will wrap up todays posts with Stumpy Point's Utility 19, a beautiful 1968 Kaiser M35 6x6 with a 250gpm pump and 500 gallons of water.



Nicknamed "Big Red", I would love the opportunity to photograph this truck.

It must be a case of "who you ask is what you get". I have put much time into adding your additional infomation on the roster I had previously compiled using the information gathered by you, myself, and John Friis. It is amazing that in some cases I have three different specs. This goes for water, year, etc. As you know, I use red for John, blue for you, and black for myself. The roster looks like a pre-schooler got to it with a new box of crayons!!!

About Stumpy Point, I recall saying the drive was long, nothing about nice though !!! It's all swamp land on most of that entire 25-mile drive from Mann's Harbor !!! No scenery to speak of !!!! hahaha

Regarding the old German pumper, it is a Mercedes-Benz 1113 4x4 with bodywork from Metz.

Additional to Juergen Kierfer, I can say that it was a TLF 16/25 what mean that it had a 1600 l/min pump and carried 2500 water. With the nameplate on the bumper "Durst 7" I think that it was converted into a brewing companies display truck in germany before it find it's way to the USA.
