If you look at the post of Tower 27 it says "Heavy Rescue Tower" but in the shot of Tower 1 the door is ope and you can only read "Rescue" and "Tower". I'm not from Denver, but I'm guessing that these are run as both a heavy rescueand/or a tower ladder company depending on what function is needed at a scene.

I think Oklahoma City does the same thing with their truck companies..."Rescue Ladder" or something similar.

The other guesses are pretty much right on. Tower 1 does say "Heavy Rescue Tower" on the side with "Rescue" on the back door. Each of Denver's Battalions has one HRT which responds to assist with Tech Rescue duties. DFD runs one Rescue Company citywide so the HRT's take some of the call load off of the Rescue in the outlaying areas were simple extrications are needed. The newer aerials aren't labeled as HRT's anymore but they serve the same function.



Tower 1 & Engine 1 have added duty as they respond to every tech & water rescue assignment across the city.



District 2 - Tower 1

District 3 - Tower 22

District 4 - Truck 15

District 5 - Tower 27

District 6 - Tower 9

District 7 - Tower 23

Airport - Truck 31

I'm pretty sure that's Truck 8's old piece. All of the Seagrave's are looking pretty banged up these days. DFD agreed to no new apparatus for a couple years due to budget issues to I assume the problem will only get worse.

I heard there were 2 Strikers. One went to Red 3 for sure since it's the oldest, I'm not sure which of the other stations got one. A buddy of mine works at DIA so I'll ask.

I wondered if 15's was getting that rig ever since I saw it on Pierce's website. With 15's really low call volume, a commercial-chassis rig makes sense in a lot of ways. That '88 E\-One was getting pretty old...



When you have a chance, can you tell me if this is a correct rundown on WM's rigs?



I know 1's, 3's, 4's, 7's, 10's, 12's, 13's and 14's have Quantum pumpers, 2's has a Quantum 65' telesqurt (12's old rig?), 5's and 6's still have the '91 KME's (will they ever retire them?), 8's has the '95 Lance TS, 9's has the '97 Saber, 11's has the '00 Saber 4x4 and 15's has the new IHC/Pierce 4x4, right? Also, did they discontinue using vollies entirely in Roxborough? While I was still there they were running "E-16" (the '88 E\-One) for the remaining Roxborough vols (15's was using the 3rd KME - Reserve now?). Towers 3 and 10 are the Quantums and T-14 is the Dash, correct?



Just wanting to keep records straight from afar.

Indeed the E\-One is getting old, the Captain at 15's said it might be going to the Hartsel VFD. A friend of mine is in the academy right now and he says they've been using it for training, so we'll see. The configuration they went with does make a lot of sense in Roxborough, it's basically like having two brush trucks down there now. The two negatives I see are... 1 A lack of compartment space for a rig that truely needs to be a quad type apparatus. 2 a low gpm pump. As isolated as they are it would be nice to have a rig with plenty of space for more truck co. equipment, with 14 being a dual house now maybe they aren't concerned. I think they went with a 1,000 gpm just to qualify as a Type I engine, but that could be kind of low if they have a large fire and are the primary pumping engine.



It's a complete 180 from what South Metro just replaced the Louvires Engine with (09' tandem axle Velocity 1500 gallon, 1500 gpm CAFS). Although water supply is a bigger problem for E40, it has as much compartment space as a small truck company. I digress.



You're right on the money with current station / apparatus assignments. As far as E5 & E6 go, no room for replacement atleast in the 2009 budget. 09 budget had $$ for the new DC1, E15, M4, M10 & a new fleet vehicle. We'll see what the 2010 replacement says but I wouldn't be suprised to see those companies getting probably E1 & E3 Quantums and those companies getting the new ones.



As far as the vollies go... I haven't seen details on what they do now but the 2009 budget had a little over $21,600 for volunteers.

Interesting electornic siren speaker configuration on the front bumper. I see 4 speakers, do they run two amplifiers? The only other big city department I know of that ran that ran 2 electronic sirens and 4 speakers is Houston before they went back to putting the Q sirens on their rigs.

The aforementioned rigs in Houston were the '97 E\-One Hurricane CR100 aerials of which only 2 or 3 are still front line with the rest reserve ...Looked awful too with a ocscillating light and a pair of air horns in between them...ha ha.

They do run two amplifiers. This generation of DFD apparatus saw two aerials and a half dozen or so engines with 4 electronic speakers and no Q Siren. I rode with E21 which is stationed in one of Denver's more upscale areas. The neighbors cover their ears when you drive by with an electronic aimed right at the sidewalk. I perfer the Q but it does make some noise this way.
