I like that. That's a good low-profile option for raised-roof cabs.
The five new Pierce Dash engine's are currently at the apparatus shops in Fairfax County being prepared for service.
The guys at the "North" shop by the Training Academy over the years have been fantastic in helping me get photographs of the new deliveries. It has worked out quite well for me since I have been working right down the street from the shops and training center. Well, that is coming to an end since I am transitioning to another job within my company and will no longer be at the office close to the shops and training center (does not mean I will not make it back). Today was my last day at the office, and once again the guys were great.
Fairfax County has 5 of these new ones. They will be delivered to:
Engine 425 Reston
Engine 426 Edsall Road
Engine 436 Frying Pan
Engine 441 Crosspointe (new station ready to open)
In addition, a first in Fairfax County is a new delivery for the training academy. I am sure that could generate some debate (not putting a new engine in the field), but I support the idea in providing training for new and existing firefighters on the type of apparatus actually in the field instead of an old hand me down.
Engine 407 is a 2007 Pierce Dash 1250/750/40. For those who track county numbers, this one carries 7558. The Pierce job number is 17764-04.
Mike, Thanks for the update on assignments. Very nice shots. I am going to be in town starting on April 11th so I will have to make the rounds to shoot the new rigs. Have you heard any rumors, conjecture, etc on where the next 4 pumpers on order will be assigned?

Only thing I have heard Dave is that Station 411 (Penn Daw) and 412 (Great Falls) may be getting them.
Thanks for the additional info Mike. I have suspected that 412, 416 and 420 were possibles for the 3rd batch. The info on one of them going to 411 is interesting as they received one of the first batch from 2005, I think shop number 7198.
I have a pretty big list of stuff to shoot when I am in town, Engine 202, the new Pierce Engines and I still want to shoot the MWAA Quantums, for some reason I was never able to get them when I lived in the area so I want to go out of my way to get them on one of my trips back.

The ladder rack onthe other side was an innovation the Bailey's Crossroads VFD (Fairfax COunty) came up with based on a recommendation of their them chief who was with Kentland and is now in CLearwater FL. It is that way so the engineer can throw the ladder if he needs to.

Here is the Bailey's Cross Roads (Station 410 in Fairfax County) that John references.
Hmmmmmm I seem to remember Alexandria receiving Engine 204 and Engine 207 with the ladder rack on the driver side n 1999. When was Engine 410 replaced? :-) I think they are a 2003 Dash. So.....lime, those innovators.....I would say white over red! :-)

As it was explained to me when 204 and 207 arrived, in cities with confined streets like Alexandria, VA has in the Old Town portion of the city often times ladder racks on the officer would drop the ladders onto parked cars. Ladder racks on the driver side drop the ladders into road space instead of on top of parked cars.

Any reason why Fairfax decided not to go with the tall/deep rescue engine style compartments on the new engines? They had them on the previous order from Pierce.
