Last photo from Duck, and I do not believe this is an actual FD unit (I may be wrong). Marked as "Surf Rescue", this is a typical surf rescue unit that you will find at many of the beaches along the Outer Banks.

One other item I forgot to mention - the Duck station apron also serves as a helicopter landing zone area and is marked as such.
Future postings will be of Southern Shores VFD, which is also located along and close to Route 12.

Excellent job Mike, seeing the various types of units operated down there is cool. Certainly getting a group shot of Duck's Pierce Tower and Engine would be awesome to say the very least!

As I recall, there are two tanks. The Assistant Chief mentioned to me that these can supply air to the pump operators who would put on masks when operating in a hazardous environment.
Great pics, I have been to the outer banks several times over the past years and really enjoyed the quiet unspoiled beaches. Any chance you got down to Ocracoke Island....I have never actually seen their station, let alone their apparatus.

Yes, I did get to Ocracoke Island several years ago and photographed their apparatus. I will include them after Dare County. Although they are in Hyde County, North Carolina, they are definitely considered on North Carolina's Outer Banks. I had an excellent opportunity to photograph the rigs with great cooperation from the FD. I think you will like them.

I will pick up where we left off from - Duck, North Carolina in Dare County.
The Town of Southern Shores borders Duck to the south. This community is predominately residential with a larger retirement community. The town occpies about 4 square miles. Southern Shores borders the Town of Kitty Hawk, with Highway 158 as the dividing line between the two towns.
Southern Shores has two stations. The main station is just after you cross over the Wright Brothers bridge that brings you from Currituck County into Dare County. Southern Shores second station is located along Route 12 as you head towards Duck.
Start of the the Southern Shores insignia that is found on a variety of the apparatus.
The 1971 Ford was replaced with this brand new 2006 International 4400/KME 1500/500/30. It carries KME serial number 6163.
Southern Shores carryies some interesting radio designations. You will notice the "T121" on the International hood. This KME is also referred to as Truck 121 because it carries some extrication equipment. I was also told it will mark up as Engine 121.
