This was one of the best Trucks that I had the fine pleasure of Driving and working off of! Oh How I miss her!! Now if someone would make a model of it!!
Tech don’t hate me but my first day of working in the fire apparatus repair business I had to help separating the tractor and trailer. The trailer was sent to Pierce to be referbed and retractored . The Hahn tractor sat in Gainesville for 6 months and one day DC came and got it I would like know what happen to it. When it came back with the new tractor and redone trailer I figured DC would hate it and I think I was right because not many where fond of it. Growing up in the DC metro area I have seen this unit going down the streets of DC and I miss the Hahns from this area.

Three American LaFrance Series 1000 ladder trucks were delivered in 1973 – 74. These diesels were the first ALF trucks ordered since the 1940s. Assignments were to Truck Companies 6, 7, and 8. Truck 7 (S-363) was the only one of the eight American LaFrance Tillers purchased in the era 1973 - 1980 to be repainted. Photo: Truck 7, even side of 1300 block, Florida Ave NE, March 1978; Photo: Truck 7 in rear of shops, February, 1990.
So when did the Stars and Bars start. I noticed some 1985 E\-One Hurricane's delivered in old Solid Red. What was the reason in switching to the Stars and Bars? Thanks in advance. Rick

Maye Cos or dcfireman can shed some light on that suject. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> It was a great truck to work off of like I said. Whenever we where near the Capital or White House, tourist would stop us and ask for a picture with the bldgs in the background.

Rick
The first 'Stars and bars' apparatus in DCFD Was Rescue Squad 3 in 1982. It was displayed at the IAFF convention in Philadelphia. they didn't use the color scheme on other apparatus until later.

I was under the impression that hizzoner, future ex-Mayor-for-life Marion Barry made a decree that as many city vehicles as possible would be painted in the Stars and Bars scheme.
Flag of the District of Columbia
Adopted October 15, 1938 Design Three red stars over two red horizontal bars on a white field Designed by Charles A.R. Dunn George Washington's coat of arms inspired the design of Washington, D.C.'s flag. The Washington family coat of arms in 14th century stained glass at Selby Abbey, EnglandThe flag of the District of Columbia, USA, consists of three red stars above two red bars on a white background. It is based on the design of the coat of arms of George Washington, first used to identify the family in the twelfth century, when one of George Washington's ancestors took possession of Washington Old Hall, then in County Durham, north-east England. For heraldic reasons, the stars are properly called mullets. Also found on the Purpleheart.
