No matter which way you enter if you look at an ADC map it is just inside the Arlington County line.
Actually, the Arlington County / Falls Church City boundary runs right through the bays. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

But if that was your way of asking me to keep FC out of this thread, I'll leave now.

Which side of the line is the living facility on? Maybe I have to increase my guess by 1/4.

Ok, I am back too the opinion that FS 6 is in Arlington County by a car length. If you pull up Arlington County GIS aerial and other maps it shows the county line just south and west by a car length from the SW corner of the bays.

You guys know Ffx Co better than I thought. You have Mount Vernon Estates and knew that one at Dulles was in Ffx Co. I did add Falls Church to my list, I didn't split hairs about the boundry line. Also The Towns of Herndon, Veinna, & Clifton.

Here is what I came up with:

Ffx F&RD 37

Ffx city 2

Fall Ch 1

Ft Belv 4

Mt Vern 1

Dulles 1

Total 46 The term "Great State of Fairfax County" started at the fire academy when the county became self certifing for EMT & fire training.

Thanks for playing along, Bruce

since everyone seems to like triva which station number post 1970 was staff or built out of number order (excluding the city stations).

Despite the number of times I've been to Station 106, I never realized where the city/country boundaries ran, and that the city split it's services between contracts with Fairfax and Arlington. I spent some time this morning looking at some different websites, and have to agree with Dave that the FCVFD station lies within Arlington County by a matter of feet. The most simple map I could find to illustrate this point was this one.

Not trying to start an argument, just an observation by a guy from Capital City. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

There might be something pretty obvious that I am missing but I think I possibly have the answer, although I am not totally 100% sure.

West Centerville - Station 38. It went live in August or September 1995 and Kingstowne - Station 37 opened in early 1996 some time, I don't remember the month. Although now that I think of it I remember hearing that Station 31 opened months before Statio 30 not sure each count as build out of order.

Mount Vernon Estate's first fire engine was donated by Henry Ford himself in 1924!

Engine 38 went in service at 17 long before station 38 actually was built.

Station 28 was built and sat empty for a long time as funding was budgeted to build the station but, not staff it.

Station 25's first truck (tiller)ran as Trk-3 replacing the Maxim which ran out Herndon unitl 25 opened.

Yes 31 before 30 and also E38 and then for a few months T-38 ran out of Station 17. 38 also opened before 37. I vaguely remember the proposed site for 437 changed several times before it was put on Telegraph road which at the time seems like it was the wrong place to have it verse having it near Van Doran Street and Kingstown Parkway, I guess the land was cheaper or donated......

Also if you remember 28 was the only station for a long time not have an EMS unit. They had an engine and an old ladder truck and then a tower and engine.....

Dave, are you sure about Truck 38 operating out of FS17? I don't recall that. I remember E38 and E17 operating out of the 2 bays to the right, and Medic and Ambulance (vollie) operating out of the 2 left bays. Running a Ladder Company out of 17 would be tight space-wise. Corrections welcome!

Thanks

Nate

Old Fairfax joke, what is the biggest ambulance in Fairfax ? answer: Wagon 28

Truck 28 was in service and out of service as staffing levels permitted until the Hendrickson / LTI was bought for Penn Daw only find you could not pull into 11 up the back ramp without bashing the roof and door of the station.

Truck-38 was the second new Trk-21 ('89 E\-One) until Chantilly's new station was completed transfering back as Trk-15 until 38 opened off of Stone Rd.

Ref to Truck 28, not only would it not go up the back ramp at Station 11, you couldn't back it in on the front ramp either......simply put, no one bothered to measure the doors at FS11 !

Ref to Truck 38, I was a dispatcher in Fairfax "before" 38's station actually opened and I have no recollection of there being a Truck 38 in service before the station opened......I do recall E38 in service and running out of 17, but no T38.

You are correct it was Engine 38 that ran from 17 for a while before the station opened.

E38 went into service at FS17 in Aug '89. T15 (was T21 until the new FS15 was build) moved to FS38 in Sept '95 when station was completed.
