  • New FS12 should be open by 11-01-2011.

  • Four new pumpers on the way from Appleton. I have no idea on the chassis or spec but expect similar to what was recently purchased. Unless something drastically changes between now and delivery, they are going to 18, 23, 24 and 29.

  • Draft plans for FS04 and FS10 under review.

This will probably work anywhere but if I wanted to photograh some nicely posed fire trucks I would strongly consider...
  • Pre-planning: Pick the spot that you think would make a good back drop in that company's first-due area or very close to it. Factor in the time of day and sunlight. My fire house sucks to take a pic of the rig on the front ramp in the morning. Granted, this isn't always possible if you are making your maiden trip to photograph these rigs but a little forethought goes a long way.

  • Call the fire station; just about every fire station has a phone number on the web somewhere. Ask for the officer in charge and try to schedule it, make sure there won't be conflicts with what's on their schedule for the day.

  • Bribery goes a long way: Offer digital copies of the pictures to the fire station for their web site (if they have one). Ice cream is to firefighters as donuts are to law enforcement.

Been busy but sitting here updating iOS5 on my iDevices so some random info to the conversation. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I think everyone means the midship towers - the rearmounts are here to stay. I heard they took the new TL36 to FS8 and I heard it didn't fit so much, but that was true firehouse kitchen talk so take it for what it's worth. Not that Fairfax has ever bought a TL that didn't fit somewhere, that's how your station had a tower for a time, right Sr?

FS2 is getting a new canteen, due soon, in black over red. They are working on a new engine to put frontline and take the ALF and have it replace the shaggin wagon as E402B. As much as they love the Lance (and it is a nice small rig to drive) it is 22 years old and the county shops will not fix anything major on it anymore - which I understand at that point. There are some internal politics going on at 2 over timing, etc., but I would expect to see an order soon from them on that.

I heard the same story on the 4 new engines - 18, 21, 23, 29. 24's was, I thought, part of the 5 rig order that originally went to 7, 25, 26, 36 and 41. The rig for 41 was a filler until the 4 CAFS rigs came on line and when 41 got it's red top that rig was lettered for Woodlawn and sent to 24. And of course we know the academy's rig is still E401.

On the Bravo designator, as couple of things everyone forgets is, there is an A, and B does not mean volunteer. The A exist, it's just assumed as the numbered unit. So E428 is really E428A (and yes if I dig I'll find the documentation on that), E413A, etc. The next rig of a type out of a station is the B unit, but that doesn't mean its volunteer staffed....it's just the second out of the house. For us that normally does mean volunteer staffed - but there was talk at one time of taking one or more of the 4 career ambulances OOS and putting a second ALS unit at a couple of stations - so if 29 for example was selected for that the second unit would be M429B....but it would be career staffed.

Old E421B was bought by the Red Lodge Fire Rescue Department, Red Lodge, MT as a second out rig for them. It has been cleaned up and is being lettered and stocked as E73. I'm friends with the chief there (how they found out about it) and when he sends me a pic of it lettered I'll post it here.

Oh and 13 is going to buy a new ambulance - as soon as I get off my arse and get the process started..........

I was at 30s on Sunday. We were talking about the new rigs and where they were scheduled to go. 423 is running with 430s old rig which is still in pretty good shape. They said the rumor mill was one of the new rigs was going to 423 but that might or might not make sense. I had heard 18, 21, 29 for certain from multiple sources.

Also the plan is still to replace the rearmount towers in the near future.

Pictures of E439, 430 and Station 412 and the Station 442 site coming this weekend once I get a chance to download them from my camera.

Oh and I thought I heard that 402 is going to be getting a new Engine similar to the 421B with a black over red color scheme, anyone hear this as well?

Thanks, Chief! I DID mean to say mid-mounts. Sad to see E402-Bravo go away. Love that rig.

Stay safe,

To SrFire Offical and Chief 413 (others please chime in) are their any plans to replaced RS414s current rig which I understand was taken from the county reserve pool? Also someone recently mentioned the county having 4 staffed ambulances and then mention 429. I thought the ambulances were at 8, 9 , 10 and 11, does 429 also staff an ambulance?

Thanks for all the great information posted lately.

Not sure on R414, I do know I've heard that there are complaints that it's too small. There were complaints that the volunteer owned R414 was too small and thats why it had to go. Red or slime lime there seems to be complaints no matter what. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

And there are 4 ambulances, 8,9,10,11. I was the one that brought 29 up and that was an example of what the radio designators would be if two medics ran out of a house and both were run by career staff. There had been talk at one point that some or all of the ambulances (named above) would be placed out of service and their staffing and rigs would get transferred out to busy medic houses to put a second medic in at peak times. 29 was one of the stations mentioned. It was a very high level conversation and I don't think it went far beyond seeing what it would look like. Beyond having enough ALS qualified personnel to do it (which with the one and one's there might have been) there are space issues in the fire houses and the fact that 8 and 10's units are volie owned - and that's the tip of the iceberg. So it didn't happen in the end.

Ambulance 429 was abolished many years ago and replaced with Medic 429.

It was difficult to take pics inside the trailer. These are as good as I could get. Way too much to explain all the equipment, the pics can do the talking.
