FDNY New pumpers.........
#21
I most definitely would not count Seagrave out. Seagrave was recently awarded the contracts for TDA's, towers, high pressure pumpers and the squad pumpers.

I would pick Seagrave if I had to pick but I dont see fdny spending $250,000.00 more for each rig to have them. This being said if the other 2 meet the specs.

I have it from a good source that these rigs were spec'd with a split-tilt cab, something that neither KME nor Ferrara has produced in the past. Anyone else heard this?

The cab on the new ladders are split-tilt, so Ferrara would be able to meet the spec if it is written that way (which I imagine it is, seeing that the last round of pumpers was).

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that the Ultra cab that Ferrara builds is split-tilt. I really don't pay that much attention to FDNY stuff. (I also realize that is blasphemy to some folks!) I wasn't saying that Ferrara or KME couldn't build a split-tilt, it's just that engineering one would add to the cost. With the lower bids, I was guessing that maybe they had taken exception to it.

Besides that. Didn't Seagrave have the low bid for the rearmounts, but ffa got the contract because of meeting the specs closer? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, Seagrave did have a lower bid, however they had over 20 exceptions to the bid specs which were unacceptable to NYCDCAS/FDNY.

Based on everything I know about the operation of FDNY, they don't ever just "give 'em a try"!! They do the necessary research, proper evaluations and everything you would expect a department of that caliber to do before they commit to anything.

To me this deal seems like a run from fast kind of deal or have your firetruck company swallowed whole by the FDNY. Does anyone know why FDNY replaced the Pierce at R1 so quickly? Hopefully FFA gets it so they'll go out of business because of it. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bitch.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The Pierce was Fema grant money. All 5 rescues were due to be replaced due to years of service. They like to keep all 5 rescues the same for operations purpose's I would think. That is the only reason why the Pierce got replaced.

Airbus actually donated the funds for the 2002 E\-One/Saulsbury at Rescue 1.

Interesting... so how DID they acquire the Pierce, since FDNY doesn't bid Pierce?
