Pics of the first County owned rig outfitted with an LED Roto-Ray! There is hope on the horizon! I believe it was installed in the last few months and from what I've been told it's a must see at night!
That would be one of my uncle Richard's new Model 4000 Roto-Rays with Whelen PAR 46 LED's (no more Tomar LED's). SIGNIFICANT improvement from what I've heard.

As to Richard, you should stop by his shop on Park Ave. in Herndon. While you're there, I'd bet he"d love to show you the '55 GMC/American pumper formerly of Great Falls he's restored. I was just talking to him Friday night doing an interview about Roto-Rays for another website and he's very excited with how popular the new PAR 46 LED model 4000 is being received in the fire community. He's getting requests from fire companies that bought the older model 1000 LED Roto-Ray to have them retrofitted with the new Whelen LEDs.
My department falls into that boat, our 2009 KME has the older Tomar LED lights and the brand new Ferrera ladder truck has these monsters in it.... the orignal idea was to have them flash as it spins (like the Tomar one)....we took one look at it and killed that idea, these things are so damn bright we would put someone into a seizure from across the river LOL!!

Did Lake Meade buy a Ladder Truck or are you talking about a different department?
Sorry, I should have notated this.. I am also a member of Columbia #1 in Lancaster County (though not really active).... that was the department I was talking about. Sorry for the confusion, although don't rule out a ladder truck for Lake Meade... if the merger between Hampton, East Berlin and Lake Meade goes through there is talk of a ladder truck for the merged department. Lake Meade is the only station that is big enough for a ladder truck.. but that is ALOT of future talk and no where near close to happen.
