Over on the other channel (youngstown) yng.fire.com; there is a multi-page thread in "general fire discussion" on old fire apparatus factories. An Elmira FD member has posted many photos and air views that show what's left at both factory sites. Much better than speculation.

Not to spread rumors but I was told today by a source trying to buy ALF parts to keep 12 of the junk things going that ALF is done, Finished. Anyone got any other info?

Has any more news come out on ALF and its financial troubles? Does anyone know if there is any information out there on this? The reason I ask is my department just put out a bid for a new tiller truck, and I was told that ALF got one of the bid specs. I don't know all the details about it or if there truck would even meet the spec, but I want to pass this information on to the chief to avoid them at all costs. We are hoping for a Seagrave!

ALF just put in a submission for a 12 truck order for Toronto. They were the highest bidder out of 5 or 6, so I doubt they will be getting it. That was September 26th 2012.

As far as I know the original plant in Elmira was torn down years ago.


The only building that I know that is still there is the office building that was across from where the original factory building is (where the flagpole is) I think this is still owned by the LaFrance Equipment Company.

Years and years ago Izzy I was up there in 1994 to fit out Engine 59 at the dealers place that of Tylers the Pierce dealer . Wayne Tyler worked for Amercain La france and bought a piece of the old property to build his dealership. In 94 it was all gone just Amercain LaFrance ave where we drove our new Pierce !
