Denver Metro Fire Apparatus
Quote:Will Denver integrate Englewood's medics, HazMat and Squad into the fleet or will they be auctioned off?
The two 2008 Crimsons are in storage at the Englewood Shops until their lease is paid in full, then they will be sold.  My understanding from both EFD and DFD is that the ALF's may be used for parts and or sold.  They have no plans to reuse the medics, once they're paid off they'll be sold also.  The Haz-Mat unit was purchased with Arapahoe County funds so it will likely be reassigned to another fire department by ACSO OEM.  I could be wrong but Littleton is still running a 90's Haz-Mat so the Englewood one would probably go to them.  The air trailer was bought with federal funds by the CO NCR so it will get reassigned to another department in need also.

Quote:Will Truck 38 operate as a quint if it arrives first-due at a working fire or will they wait for an engine to arrive before deploying attack lines? Thanks in advance.
I was told initially that T38 would operate as a quint, as needed, within its first due much like T2 does today.  A careful look at the photos and the cross-lay trays were empty.  Without attack lines they'll be forced to operate as a straight truck.  Rumor has it that DFD has already appropriated funds for a Velocity 105' quint to replace it.

Many of the Englewood Firefighters started the DFD 5 week lateral academy today.  Rank was not carried over so everyone is starting fresh as firefighters.  Some senior members chose to retire and I know of at least one who was hired by a neighboring district.

Red 1 should be arriving any day now.  They had scheduled a media day on June 18th to show off the ARFF rigs, but the Stinger had to go back to Oshkosh for repair work.

My understanding is that Oshkosh delivered it with major plumbing problems.

Years of the City of Englewood suffering financially ultimately led to a slow decline in funding for all city services.  The FD was in bad need of station and apparatus improvements but there was no money for it.  Englewood asked Denver & South Metro to submit bids to take over fire service.  DFD initially stated they didn't need to make many improvements to the firehouses, would take care of providing apparatus and be far less expensive.  South Metro didn't want to inherit any problems so their proposal was significantly more money to include all new stations and apparatus.  The city went with the most cost effective choice.  DFD is also contracted for fire services in Glendale & Sheridan, two other small cities with finical difficulties.
