Some of the companies prefer to have them elevated for better road visibility.

That's what I though, it doesn't "stress" the hydraulics ? On out TL's we have a stow button, which levels it to rig, and in operation it's off so it levels to the horizon.
On the old Baker TL's you had to level bucket to rig after use or it would bounce around and possibly sanp something.

Quite honestly I don't know the answer to that, they've done it for years and I've never heard of a problem. Next time I'm around a TL Chauffeur I'll ask.
Medic 4, a 2008 GMC/Lifeline parked in front of their new temporary quarters in a commercial strip mall.
I found this old beast parked behind the fleet maintenance building. It's labeled as Maintenance 1 but I'm sure it had another life years ago... maybe Image7801 knows it's history.
Here's some more Union Colony / Greeley rigs courtesy of Rick Luebke
The famous Ladder 1, I was told that for political reasons "Greeley Fire" was removed from the rig after quite a heated discussion. The department is still officially called "Union Colony," I guess someone jumped the gun on labeling this one originally.

Our tower will do that sometimes, but it has more to do with the air temperature then visibility. If the truck is out in the cold a long period of time the hydraulic fluid gets cold and contracts. When the truck backs in from a run the bucket will be level, but as the fluid heats up and expands from being inside the bay the bucket will raise. At least that's what the Peirce rep told us.

Ask and you shall receive...
As far as I know, this unit was always an apparatus maintenance unit (with the explanation shown below), but never seemed to really go anywhere - it always seemed to just "sit". This was a (I believe) 1979 Ford F-700 with an unknown body, used by Bancroft-Lakewood/Bancroft-West Metro. I was told that this chassis was originally under the Bancroft-purchased 1979 Ford/Pierce rescue (Unit #R-04) that was retired from West Metro as a reserve a couple of years ago, and that that chassis (the rescue) was under the maintenance body. Some years ago (late 80's, I assume), the chassis under the rescue got pretty worn out, so they switched bodies. The worn out chassis went under the maintenance body (the rig in the photo), and the relatively unused F-700 chassis went under the rescue. The only differences were: 1) One of them (I don't remember for sure, but I think this one, originally under the rescue), had a two-speed rear end, while the other one didn't. 2) Prior to switching the bodies, the rescue can be seen with the Aerosonic red-blue light bar. After the switch, the rescue had an all-red twinsonic light bar (see photo below - credit to Michael Block). If you have access to the Lakewood Fire Department 1937-1990 history book, there is a picture in there from 1988 when they signed the auto aid agreement between Lakewood and Bancroft: The rescue clearly has the red-blue Aerosonic light bar.

Come to think of it, I believe the bodywork was 3-D, just like old Brush 13's rig. They were probably bought about the same time, since that rig was a '79 also.
I had no doubt that you would know the answer! I don't have that history book but what an interesting switch, it sounds like budget thinking to me <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> While I was over there I tried to find the aftermath of E13 & S14's accidents. E13 wasn't there and S14's cab is completely covered with a tarp so I could get a photo of any damage.
I've yet to find out where Brush 4 is now that they're running out of a strip mall. Hopefully they'll avoid one of our classic summer hail storms since the Medic is parked outside, or maybe they'll just run hot to a car wash.

Hey -
Thanks for the response. It looks like the [Interim] Station 4 is down there by King Soopers off Alameda and Ohio, maybe in the old KMart building? Do you know if they created the bay, or the building already had the door? Too bad you couldn't get a photo of Squrt 14. If it's still around, my guess would be that they're still wrangling over insurance or something...
My guess on Brush 4 would be that they shipped it down to 9's, or maybe up to 6's. Any idea what ever happened to the '95 Hummer that ran as Brush 9? I haven't seen it in years, so I wonder if they got rid of it.
I'll be in Denver from tomorrow night until Monday, so maybe I'll poke around, if I have time.
The interim Station 4 is at 12364 West Alameda Parkway (Alameda Pkwy and Xenon Court) After looking at google maps it appears that the bay was already there, and the building appears to have always been a commercial L shaped strip. I honestly don't know where BR4 ended up. Station 6 is probably too full with an Engine, Medic and SaM, Station 9 might have room but then they would have two brush trucks. I know Air Support 3 is being housed at District 2's quarters and I heard a rumor that a Haz-Mat rig is now at 3's. My hypothesis is that BR4 is at 5's for the summer now. I haven't seen the hummer in years either but I'm not sure of it's fate.
It's been a stormy week so you'll have some rain and thunder to look forward to. I'm sending you a PM.
