Rear
Nate, Did you shoot that at the North Shop? Do you know who is next in line for delivery and remember who else is scheduled to get them. I remember 9, 15, 27 and the memory fails from there without my cheatsheet which is at home.

Dave, That has to be the South Shop. None of the backgrounds look familiar. 39 will be getting one. Will these only be replacing E\-One's or will some of the 2005 Pierce's go in reserve.
Patrick, I thought it was the South Shop as well but the damn if the building doesn't look like the North Shop. I am sure Nate will confirm. You are right I am remembering now, all the rigs currently still with E-Ones were planned to be replaced. Unless that has changed that is what is going to happen. So 35, 38 nad 39 should also be on the list.
These were taken at the apparatus shop - north, just off West Ox Road. My understanding is that the new rigs will replace all of the older front line E-Ones and that most of the 2005 Pierce rigs will remain at their designated houses. I believe the ones to receive the Velocity's are: 9, 15, 27, 35, 38 and 39 - however that only adds up to 6 (or 7 if you count 32's 2009 Velocity). Who knows, perhaps Engine 1 will go back to the academy and one of the new rigs will go there. That's all I know gents. Hope that helps! Nate
If you look in post #904 you can see US NORTH(APPARATUS NORTH) on the Sign on the upper left side.

Your right Dave. The construction is what threw me off as well. They are moving at a fast pace. I had heard these new ones wouldn't have the bug style mirrors, but I guess that isn't true. This should keep me busy for awhile. Thanks Nate for posting these.
It is funny how this engine gives the apperance of being a "Big rig" I don't know the wheel base or hight but the comparments and body layout look the same as engines the county has had for some time.
Brand new Engine 27 - West Springfield district. One of nine new Velocity's due to be delivered this year. Big, BIG rig. 2009 Pierce Velocity

You are correct Joe, I think the point people were making is that the move to the Dash's were a move from shorter wheele base pumpers to longer wheel base pumpers, the E\-One's are more compact than the new spec pumpers.
Having seen them up close and personal I assure you they are definitely longer AND wider. I honestly don't think it is a perception issue (though I could be wrong). I have a friend who is currently assigned to a county company (as a driver) currently using one of the new Velocity's and he was surprised at the difference. Engine 410 was also at the apparatus shop when I was there (getting work done following the collapse at FS10) and the size difference between the two was considerable. Again, just my opinion! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Take care gents! Nate
I'm curious, is there a reason the ladder rack is on the street side of the apparatus?
I'm curious, is there a reason the ladder rack is on the street side of the apparatus?
That's pretty popular in that area. In congested areas where the ladder rack may interfere with cars parked on the curb, it gives the members better access to the ladders.

The perception of added width is true. The Velocity cabs are 100" wide vs. 96" for the Dash.
Thanks C60. Now I know I'm not crazy!

The perception of added width is true. The Velocity cabs are 100" wide vs. 96" for the Dash.
Yes all new chassis are a little (4") wider, that is just the difference between Dash etc to the Velocity. I believe what most people are talking about, because those 4" are not really visable much in person or in a picture, is the length of the apparatus. Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Yes, the new rigs are wider, but so is everyone else building them these days, nothing you can do about that. Now length, you can do something about that in your specs.
