Outer Banks, North Carolina - Department profiles
This one surprised me. Salvo is located on Route 12 while heading towards Cape Hatteras. A smaller community.

Their new Ladder 48 is a 2008 Pierce Arrow XT 100' 1250/500 and has job number 20746.

Along with a new ladder truck came a new fire station at Salvo. Built where the old station once stood.

Tight turn for Ladder 48 when leaving quarters.

Finally, for this years updates, Colington's Storm 15 was re-painted from it previous military green.

Storm 15 is a 1998 AMC M35A3 2.5 ton. It was once a US Army National Guard truck. It has two long benches in the back to help remove people during storm/high water situations.

Interesting with the painted aluminum ladder and the "super singles" instead of duals on the rear axles.

The Southern Shores units were in the finish area when I was out at Pierce in May. Great group of firefighters and were very friendly.

From what I was told by another company ,( Chicomicobanks and their squirt) the super singles are better in the sand.

I was told that Avon is looking at an engine - we will see. If Avon gets a ladder, that puts a variety of ladder trucks on that stretch of Rt. 12. Should be interesting.

Never a dull moment with OBX apparatus.

Sorry, no update on Hatteras. Salvo was far south as we got.

I can only imagine the challenges of setting up a ladder in the sand. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/22_yikes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='22_yikes' />

ok...it will be a little while until I get to the Dare County station profiles. Departments like Nags Head, Roanoke Island, Hatteras, etc. all have interesting apparatus.

I will post a couple from the recent vacation trip.

Kitty Hawk recently placed into service Ladder 13, this nice 2005 Spartan Gladiator/Smeal 105' 2000/370. Smeal serial number 3062.

You are correct, Avon recently took delivery of a Pierce Engine. Specs unknown, but I will find out Memorial Day weekend unless if someone gets there first!

It is on the Pierce web page under new deliveries - a nice Pierce Velocity with top mount pump panel and roll up compartment doors.

Time to put a little life back into the OBX thread.

I recently returned from a week's vacation in Duck and had the opportunity to visit a variety of the OBX fire stations. Weather all week was really good, with one day of clouds and rain - fortunately, that was the day we were leaving. Yet again, the friendliness and cooperation from the folks at the stations was outstanding.

I have a variety of updates from both Currituck and Dare County stations as well as a variety of photographs to post.

I will start with our trip down to OBX through the Tidewater Virginia area and entering North Carolina from Chesapeake, Virginia. Just after crossing the VA/NC border, you enter Currituck County and the first station is Moyock.

Original photos from Moyock are on page 1 of this thread.

New to Moyock is their Truck 3, a 1998 Sutphen 75' 1750/500 with Sutphen s/n HS-3311. It was purchased from Rostraver Central, PA where it was painted black over red. Moyock received the Sutphen last year and had it repainted.

Would anyone have a photo of the Sutphen while in service in PA?

Mike,

Just returned today from Corolla and WISH I had researched it before I left. I had a bit of time to take a few pictures; nothing compared to what you have. I saw Moyock is where old Ladder 105 from Rostraver Central went. Here it is at Rostraver:
