Caught this out and about. I believe they were using it as an EMS Command Unit at the annual Race for the Heart. I tried to bike around the city and get some shots of stations, but getting a flat tire ruined that idea. Luckily on my way home I came across a box a few blocks from my house.

A few minutes after getting home I saw 19 Engine roll by and heard the box on 17th St SE. 8 Engine must have been on another run because the Capitol Hill boys, 18 Engine Truck 7, were first due.

I caught this support vehicle last weekend. I'm not sure what it's used for but from the looks of it..its used to cage wild animals during large events.. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hysterical.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



Maybe Cosgrove or one of the DC guys can give more details on how many small stand by units the District has.

Looks like one of those ASAP medics. Baltimore has 2 of them. They are used for big events where a regular size ambo cant manuver because of crowds.

While stalking the elusive Alexandria new Truck 208 I stopped by Founders Park on the Potomac to shoot the Vigilant, Alexandria's Fireboat. Low and beyold the John H. Glenn floated by and proceeded to play with water for 30 minutes under my watchful camera. I have tons of shots. Here is a preview...I will post more once I get back to MN.

Thanks to everyone - this is a great thread.



I'm a buff who just moved to DC from Florida and I'm having a lot of fun playing "identify the unit". With the help of this thread, I've identified the reserve Hazmat Unit I spotted outside Rescue 1's station and the TAU units. There's still one unit that is a mystery...



I've seen this truck several times in SW. One time it was parked at the Safeway on M near the Fire Boat station and another time it was responding to a call near the marina and looked to be responding out of the Fire Boat area.



The truck is all red (can't remember if it had a stripe or not), "new-ish" Ford truck chassis (2006+) with a 4-door cab. I think it's a 550/650 chassis. It's got a tall box on it, like the Rapid Hazmat unit, but the box has a walk-in area like the big Rescues have.



It has no lettering or numbering on it except for a tiny DCFD (older) logo on the back door. It's not the new maltese logo, but the one that was in place before that.



Anyone have any idea what this truck is? I'm thinking it's some type of quick response unit run out of the Fire Boat station that they can run to Medical calls and such in the SW Area. They could also use it to run errands while on duty in case they have to respond back to the station to get on the boats. I've googled and googled and can't find any pics of this thing. Next time I see it I will take some pics.



3 other quicker / simpler questions:



1. I've seen the Rescues go by a few times and it appears like there are men just standing in up in the back. Are they really standing up? Are they strapped in at all? Is this allowed?

2. There are little white squares (probably 6" x 6") on the rear of some of the Chief (or maybe EMS Sup.) vehicles that face to the sides. What are these for? They look like bigger versions of the things we have to swipe badges at to gain entry to office buildings. I'm guessing they're some type of communication device.

3. I read about how the stations can buy their own Roto-Rays, but are there no rules on what colors go in them? Do the colors signify anything? Like 2 Blues/1 Red or 1 Green / 1 Red / 1 White?
