  The "Exes"

This is a collection I have of fire apparatus (mostly local) that are no longer serving as the unit photographed. Some have changed stations, while others have become reserves, or moved to a new department, or even been crashed. No matter the outcome, they all played a key part in their tenure of service! Hope y'all enjoy, some of the photographs date back to when I was young so I may not have all the right stats for some of them, nor the best quality images.

I've not been active here for a long time, but a friend recently reminded me of a few good threads and the rest of my social media is no fun anymore.  I need to go back to the 4-ish forums that I used to regularly enjoy.

I haven't shot or scanned much lately, but here are a few things that have crossed my path recently:

  2nd Alarm-Attleboro, MA-25 Thomas Ave-9/4/22
Posted by: edburke - 09-04-2022, 03:02 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (15)

While working on content for Excelsior Emergency Medical Training's website, I heard Attleboro fire being dispatched to a reported building fire at 25 Thomas Ave.  I looked it up and saw that it was 4 minutes from the house-out the door I went.  From about a half mile away, I could see heavy smoke showing and the police were on scene confirming a building fire.

I parked and walked up to the scene just as Attleboro Engine 2 was arriving.  The location of the fire was at the extreme end of their response area and the Ladder and Rescue (ambulance) that they share quarters with were unavailable for response.  Other companies were coming from a significant distance, so as the saying from Backdraft goes "it's John Wayne time."  The visible heavy fire was knocked down from outside and an aggressive interior attack knocked down the majority of the fire before the arrival of the second due company, about 7 minutes after their arrival.  They made a great hold with the tank water.

Arriving with Engine 2:

Shortly after 2200 hrs, Pawtucket companies reported heavy black smoke from a 1 story commercial building on Smithfield Ave. Companies attempting to make initial entry reported being met with heavy fire conditions in the rear of the building which resulted in a second alarm being struck which brought all Pawtucket crews and Central Falls Ladder 1 to the scene.

  07/23/22 Winnipeg MB Trench Rescue
Posted by: wpgfirebuff411 - 07-24-2022, 12:06 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - No Replies

At 4:08 in the afternoon on Saturday, July 23, WFPS was dispatched for a reported Trench rescue. Engine 14 was on scene first and discovered that a 6+ foot trench had collapsed on a worker burying him up to his waist. The first in trucks tried to rescue him quickly but were unsuccessful as the soil conditions caused the trench to slowly collapse further. Once the technical rescue team arrived (Station 11), crews conversed quickly to formulate an action plan and got to work assembling the limited shoring that Rescue 11 had with them. Once the trench was more secure they began digging out the patient. District Chief 24 arrived with the shoring trailer and more trench panels and shoring were added to the trench. Approximately 90 minutes after the call was dispatched the patient was pulled from the trench and was brought over to the ambulance under his own power. He was assessed by paramedics and didn't require transport to the hospital, and was released.

Units on Scene: Engine 14, Engine 27, District Chief 3, District Chief 4, Engine 11, Rescue 11, Ladder 11, Safety 5, District Chief (EMS) 74, District Chief 24, Trench Rescue 7, Ambulance 22, Ambulance 27

  Vintage Canadian: 1945 White Bickle-Seagrave
Posted by: PriorMike - 06-28-2022, 01:46 PM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (1)

I was going to post this in my Arnprior Fire Department thread, but I think this truck is special enough to gets its own.

It's a 1945 White WA22 / Bickle-Seagrave pump. Purchased by Arnprior, it responded up until the 70's when it was sold locally to a private citizen. A friend of mine who is an apparatus collector bought it last year, and brought it by the department prior to training one evening. For its age it's in very good shape. I had an opportunity to drive it(with my then-4 year old son sitting next to me, how great is that?) and I can say that the lads that came before were made of some stern stuff.

I can't recall the pump specs off of the top of my head, but I'll get those.
