Posted by: Guest - 04-20-2014, 10:11 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (3)

Below are a few photos from a fire that I missed while on coverage. The photos are from a few friends that support my blog site. Its one fire, I hated to miss for working it and shooting the incident,  Its been busy lately I hope to catch one soon.

Norwich 2nd Alarm +, 4-13-14

<b><i>Around 0810 Norwich Fire was dispatched to the area of Washington St. and Lincoln Ave, for a reported structure fire with people trapped, Several more reports continued in before arrival. Battalion 1 arrived and found a large 2.5 story apartment building with heavy fire showing from 2nd floor and attic area (converted to living space). A 2nd alarm was requested. Crews searched, vented and placed lines into operation on all floors. As conditions deteriorated, Car 1 requested an extra 1&1 (engine & Ladder). Crews worked the building until the fire took over the building, Command evacuated the building and added HT-6 for additional water supply. They worked the fire for about 4hrs. The building sustained heavy damage and the cause is under investigation. All occupants were accounted for.

  Dutchess Community College Test Burn
Posted by: Guest - 04-20-2014, 11:44 AM - Forum: All Other Photos - Replies (11)

On Saturday April 19, 2014 the Fire Science Club  of Dutchess Community College conducted 2 test burns at the Dutchess County Fire Training Center. The burn tested standard lightweight floor construction, consisting of 3 wooden I beams  supporting a plywood floor and 300 pounds of cinderblocks.  The I beams were supported by 2 walls of 2x4 and sheetrock construction, and the rear was blocked by plywood to prevent the wind from blowing fire and heat out the side.  All materials were donated by Williams Lumber.  The Roosevelt Fire District of Hyde Park, NY supplied an engine and a crew to provide the necessary hand lines

Here is a picture of the set up before the burn.  Fire load was provided by several pallets of wood, about 4 bales hay, and small part of section couch.

First On Scene At House Fire, Aurora, CO 4/18/14
Posted by: Guest - 04-19-2014, 09:42 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (14)

At 03:46 I woke up to tones for a smoke investigation a few blocks from my house.  The first due Engine read their MDT notes and requested a full structure fire response, so I was out the door.  Approaching the scene the breeze smelled like a legit fire and there was a light haze in the street.  Aurora Police arrived just after I did and parked pretty close.  Walking up alarms were sounding and light, laminar smoke was showing from both floors... The homeowner owner opened every window before he evacuated.

Chicago Still Alarm 9740 Farragut April 17, 2013
Posted by: Guest - 04-18-2014, 09:46 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (18)

I was able to attend an unusual incident last night. There is a small area that belongs to Chicago, that lies along Foster ave west of River rd, adjacent to O'Hare Field. This is much closer to a couple of suburbs..Rosemont and Schiller park, yet it belongs to CFD. It isn't really a good run for either the Airport companies..nor engine 11.Sort of a no man's land. Rosemont responded to smoke in the area, as well as Schiller Park , Desplaines, and Park Ridge. CFD was notified as well. Arriving units found a well involved tour/party type bus inside an industrial building. Park Ridge, due on auto aide, used a deck gun to hit the bulk of the fire. Chicago companies arrived and worked in concert with all the suburban units. Another interesting aspect to this was the MVU (924) was used..this rig lives at O'Hare Field and most of us fire fan types have never actually had a chance to see the unit in operation. I also took a photo or 2 of the various municipality street signs at each end of the block. They used suburban style hydrants, but I think I heard the sprinkler connections on the fire building were Chicago threads. All in all a "once in a billion years" kinda deal.

Fire Shelters "AKA shake n bake"
Posted by: BHFire13 - 04-16-2014, 03:35 AM - Forum: Fire Service Related - Replies (3)

Hey so a friend of mine still active in wildland firefighting told me tonight at thier RED card recert class that the instructor said that after 2014 fire shelters well no longer be required in the US?????

Has anyone heard this also any please explain. The instructor told them the reason being is the Yarnell Hill fire and that with shelters were being too aggressive on the fire line and not saying far enough back, and that Canada and noone else uses them in the world were the only country, so I guess were to fall in line with everyone else ???

Idk this sounds kinda wacky and I couldn't find anything with a google search, figure someone hear has an inside in some FS fire division or BLM and maybe it hasent been made offical yet can anyone confirm and clarify.

thanks guys again

Most days when I leave work I put on the PulsePoint Live Dispatch Radio here in Las Vegas. Today I did not for some reason. I was at Pecos and Desert Inn when I got a text message that there was a working fire in the area of East Charlston and North Lamb. Being as this was the way I sometimes go home I looked in that direction and saw a large column of smoke. All pictures were taken with my Cell Phone as that's all I had with me

On Scene Units

Clark County Fire Department Engine 16, Engine 27, Truck 16, Rescue 16

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Engine 8, Engine 201, CBRN 8, AIR RESOURCE 1, RESCUE 8. PIO1, BATTALION 1 AND 3, EMS 1, CARS 6i4, 6i5, AND 6i7

AMR AMBULANCE

I put on the Live Radio Feed as soon as I could safely. When I was close I saw smoke in the area still and decided to take in the fire.

After parking and getting close this is what I saw. Now sorry about the quality but all I had with me was my cell phone.

This morning at around 5 am I heard a lot of sirens but did not think anything about since I live in North Las Vegas, truth be told we hear sirens all the time. It was not till I turned on my cell phone at around 6 am that I found out that there was a fire right behind our house. At the time that I looked outside this is the smoke I saw

  FDIC 2014

Well, another year comes and goes, and 30,000 of the nation's bravest made their way to Indianapolis for FDIC.  It was a  really good trip for yours truly this year, aside from some inconveniences at the hotel.

This was a great year to catch up with some old friends, as well as finally getting to put a face with some folks I've talked to on the internet for years.  Some of the who's who in apparatus histories and photography were there:  Greg Stapleton, Dennis Maag, Kent Parrish, Lukas Prestovnik (who gets an award from flying from Austria to shoot a single fire engine), Dave Mattingly, Bill Friederich, Glenn Vincent, Steve Loftin, Tom Shand (who I passed at a distance in the Pierce booth).  I also got to talk to Travis "Juice" Messersmith, John "T-Bone" Raley, and Rick Mosher passed through a booth I was standing in as well.  Did I miss anyone?

Anyhoo, I'm sure you all are ready for the photos.

First up, an overview of the Lucas Oil Stadium (LOS), where Pierce, Alexis, and HME were on display.
