As E30 approached they reported a header and fire showing. On arrival, they

  Boston Conflagration May 22, 1964
Posted by: Guest - 05-24-2014, 08:42 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (6)

In 1964, 50 years ago, Boston had conflagration in South Boston that destroyed 17 3-deckers and damaged 18 others. There were also more than 200 small roof fires in the area.

This is one of just 2 or 3 photos I shot before grabbing hose lines, etc.

Hi Guys,

Now that the good weather has arrived, I have been out and about shooting apparatus on buffing trips. Last weekend was an excellent visit to the Birmingham area of England, this was pre-arranged by The Fire Brigade Society (www.thefirebrigadesociety)

Our first stop was Birmingham Airport. Although not as big or busy as Heathrow, Gatwick or Manchester, it offers flights to the UK, Europe, North America and the Middle East. It is actually the seventh busiest airport in the UK.

In 2013 they invested in a fleet of five brand new Oshkosh Strikers and finished them in their new corporate colours of blue and white.

Boat Fire in Baltimore's Inner Harbor 5-17-14
Posted by: BCFDphotoman - 05-21-2014, 12:23 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (9)

On Saturday, May 17th A BCFD Fire Inspector working downtown observed smoke coming from the Inner Harbor area of downtown Baltimore.

On further investigation he saw a boat and pier well involved and asked for a tactical box to be struck out.

A large thick black column of smoke was visible for miles across the City.

Both Fire Boat 1 and Fire Rescue Boat responded along with land companies to the area of Lancaster and President Streets.

The boat was tied up to a floating pier and dock well out in the water away from the land companies reach.

The boats arrived first and started to get a knock on the fire. The land companies had to stretch handlines across the pier walkways towards the fire.

There was also an initial report of someone trapped in the boat. When firefighters knocked down the fire they began to chop into the boat to rescue a 68 year old woman who was down in the bottom of the boat. She was brought out with burns to the face and smoke inhalation and taken to the Bayview Burn Center.

She was listed in serious condition with non life threatening injuries. The fire was brought under control in less than an hour. Two boats were involved and damages were reported at $100,000. The cause is being investigated.

  Harrisburg Expo 2014

Anyone who's been to Harrisburg knows that it can be a little difficult to get apparatus shots. I wasn't able to get a whole lot and please excuse the folks in some of the shots, but I figured some would be better than nothing:

I was buffing Beantown the other day and my travels got me over to Black Falcon Dr, or something like that in Southie.  Over there I found a builidng that for all my life looks like a fire station.  I know Boston never had a station over there, is it possible that this was a fire station when this was the Navy Yard?  I don't remember that either.

With all that development over there if I were in charge I might want to get some contributions from the developers and buy that building and re-open Engine 1 and Ladder 5.

Aurora, CO Defensive House Fire 5-11-14
Posted by: Guest - 05-12-2014, 05:38 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (19)

At 20:40 Aurora Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire in the area of an intersection near my house.  The RP reported black smoke from the front of a home under construction.  I was quickly out the door in the wind & freezing rain and arrived just behind the first due engine.  There was nothing showing on approach but when the crew made it to the front door they found the structure charged with smoke.  Engine 13 pulled an 1 3/4" and identified what looked like a small amount of fire on the first floor in the bravo / charlie corner.

Engine 13's Firefighters advancing a line inside...

Battalion Chief 3 getting a face to face pass down from Engine 13's Lieutenant and assuming command.  As the Chief was completing a 360 he heard a loud noise from the bravo / charlie corner and identified that a basement fire had already breached the first floor.  A withdraw order was given to E13 and a defensive strategy was declared.
