  Finger Extrication, Portland 5-2-2014
Posted by: Guest - 05-04-2014, 09:06 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (10)

Around 6PM, May 2, Rescue 7 responded to report of a child who had a "finger stuck

in a wheel". Upon arrival, they found an 8-year old boy who had his finger in the

lug hole of a car wheel. The child had been stuck for approximately 45 minutes

while his parents tried to free him, unsuccessfully, trying oil and petroleum jelly.

After further attempts using an ice pack and more lubricant, Rescue 7 called for

Truck 7 to assist. Since the finger was swollen, Truck 7 used a piece of elastic strap

and wrapped it around the finger to reduce the swelling. Then the end of the strap

was pushed through the opening beside the finger. Once the strap was on the

other side, it was slowly un-wrapped. That action slowly pulled the compressed

 finger back through the hole.

Chris Fukai comforts the boy as the finger is slowly released.

Although the finger appeared to be uninjured, the family was advised to

go to a hospital and have it examined by a doctor.

  Aurora, CO Brush Fire 5/2/14
Posted by: Guest - 05-02-2014, 10:39 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (17)

This afternoon Aurora Engine 10 was dispatched to a brush fire in the 3300 block of South Flanders Street.  With multiple 911 calls a Brush Truck was added to the response.  As Battalion Chief 3 was leaving a firehouse several miles away he could see smoke in the air and requested a wildland fire response.  Engine 10 made access down a trail and pulled an attack line.

About an acre had already burned when I arrived...

  Couple of "Engineering" Questions
Posted by: Guest - 05-02-2014, 08:48 AM - Forum: Apparatus Scuttlebut - Replies (14)

These have probably been asked & answered, but I could not locate them.

1)...  What is the advantage of tilting and putting the Bulbs in an off~centered position on a Roto-Ray? Thanks Travis!!

2)... On Mechanical Q~2s, I've noticed some recessed in the bumper or the front of the cab. Also included is the "Directional Cone" available from Federal.Wouldn't that create a "loss of air"?  It seems,to me, that the "loss of air" intake would lower the efficiency of the unit

TIA!!

I was at work when this whole thing got started so I got there after the visible fire was out.  Companies were having trouble accessing the fire due to power lines, railroad tracks, etc.  Some cool apparatus stuff to share and that's about it. Earlier, I'd heard that the smoke was so thick, it shut down the adjacent Adlai E Stevenson Expressway.

I've tried selling this on eBay twice recently, both times the winning bidder never paid. At this point I don't have an exact price I'm looking to get, so I will take offers. You can shoot me a PM on here, but you're better off sending me an email, which is fdtl21ny@hotmail.com. I will accept payment through PayPal.

Fire started in some bales of cardboard boxes outside of building. Fire extended inside to involve some of the structure and contents. An engine and tanker responded from Tsuu T'ina and they requested an engine and tanker from our department in Redwood Meadows.
