  Berkeley CA multiple alarms 4/12/14
Posted by: Guest - 04-13-2014, 01:53 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (4)

Second alarm upon arrival of first due Engine 6 (West Berkeley flatlands company).  Fire self-vented thru roof fairly quickly with multiple alarms struck in quick succession.  Many ALCO (Alameda County) companies called in on mutual aid assignments...sorry for poor quality, I only had my phone with me!

WEST PATERSON NJ ANNUAL FIRE EXPO CANCELLED FOR 2014
Posted by: Richard_L_Dean_07405 - 04-10-2014, 08:17 AM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

May 4th was supposed to be the 23rd annual Fire Expo hosted by the Rifle Camp Fire Co. 3 of the West Paterson Fire Department, Woodland Park NJ.   Sadly it has been cancelled for this year.  Members plan to resume it next year.

This is because the centrennial celebration of both the West Paterson Fire Department and the Borough of Woodland Park (formerly  West Paterson) is scheduled for May 17 which includes a big parade.  Unfortunately the amount of work involved for the all volunteer firefighters has proved to be so overwhelming a decision has been made to cancel it.

As secretary of the North Jersey Volunteer Firemen's Association of which West Paterson 3 companies have always been a very active part  of, I was requested to spread the word.  The Fire Expo which began as a firematic flea market and mug swap as proven to be very popular with vendors and attendees coming from all over the area of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and even farther away.

  5 Alarm Commercial Structure Fire Torrington,CT 4/3/14
Posted by: Guest - 04-08-2014, 09:04 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (8)

Twelve mutual aid departments, 150+ firefighters, 5 regional foam trailers, 2 air cascades, and 13 hours to bring this 5 alarm blaze in the south end of the City of Torrington under control. The large warehouse involved was the storage stock storage facility for Tocci Tires (a large retail and wholesale tire distributor) and O&G Industries a region wide construction contractor. As the tire fueled fire raged through the building it threatened the adjacent residential neighborhoods with it's toxic smoke and huge fire balls. The cause of the fire is  under investigation but appeared to have started in the tire company's warehouse. The building was a total loss and heavy equipment was brought in to clean up the rubble left from the collapsed building.

  Fire Police
Posted by: Aaronw - 04-06-2014, 02:30 PM - Forum: Photo Requests-NO IMAGES IN THIS FORUM! - Replies (1)

This is something we don't have in the west (or at least I've never seen them in my travels).

Understand they are basically traffic / crowd control volunteers attached to the fire department.

I expect they just drive people movers, but am curious and maybe some have something fancier than an SUV or crewcab pickup.

Anyway thought it might be something different to see and hopefully people familiar with them may also further explain their role (and why fire police instead of police reserves).

Thanks

Boston Fire Department - Engine / Ladder
Posted by: Guest - 04-06-2014, 09:03 AM - Forum: Photo Requests-NO IMAGES IN THIS FORUM! - Replies (1)

Hi Guys,

I am putting the finishing touches to an article on the tragic fire at Beacon Street, Boston for our journal Fire Cover which is the magazine for The Fire Brigade Society - www.thefirebrigadesociety.co.uk

This is a UK-based fire buffs organisation with members all over the world.

Could any of you guys help with a colour photograph of Engine 33 or Ladder 15, or if not any Engine company or Ladder company from the BFD.

The size of the photograph has to be over 2mega bites so we can publish it. I promise you guys, this isn't for financial gain, its solely for use in our journal. The photographer will be fully credited and I will make sure when we do publish the magazine, the photographer gets a couple of copies.

Either email me at andy.daley1978@yahoo.com or drop me a line on here.

Thank you and stay safe

Andy

The FDNY Super Pumper is/was located here. I had the opportunity to visit the Museum and talk to the owner about 5 years ago. Incredible collection of apparatus and fire toys.
