Deansboro FD (Oneida County NY) responded to a barn fire this morning. Many departments were called to bring tankers to the scene. Here is the scene upon my arrival, about 2 hours after the initial alarm.
Pikesville, MD - July 8, 2009 - A two-alarm fire in the storage area of a popular Pikesville restaurant Wednesday afternoon July 8th broke out just as dinnertime was getting underway . Baltimore County’s 911 center received a phone call just before 5 p.m. reporting an electrical fire in a storage area of the Suburban House, in the 900 block of Reisterstown Road, said Elise Armacost, BCoFD spokesperson. The officer on first arriving BCoFD Engine 2 (Pikesville career station) reported heavy flames and smoke were coming from the building and requested a second alarm. Approximately 35 patrons and employees had self-evacuated upon the fire department’s arrival and firefighters made an aggressive attack to limit the spread of the fire, Armacost said. “Crews did a very good job of knocking down the fire quickly,” she said, noting the storage area held kitchen supplies, canned goods, and overstock items. Suburban House dates back several decades as a landmark restaurant along Pikesville’s main strip. In recent years, adjacent businesses had closed and the restaurant had taken over the spaces next to their main dining area. Members of the Baltimore County Fire Investigation Division were on the scene searching for the cause and origin of the fire, Armacost said, noting an employee heard popping sounds and smelled smoke in the storage area just before seeing flames. At approximately 5:42am, Reading's 911 dispatch center recieved numerous phone calls reporting a motor vehicle crash in the area of 398 Haverhill St. Reports were that the vehicle was also on fire. Reading Fire HQ companies Engine 4, Ladder 1 and Paramedic 1 were dispatched to the scene under the command of C3 Captain Campbell.
Apon arrival, companies reported a single car, on fire, that had hit 2 telephone poles and a tree. There was at least 1 report of multiple occupants still in the vehicle, however those reports were false as there was only the driver who had self extricated. He was transported by Reading P1 to Lahey Clinic in Burlington to recieve treatment for injuries.
The car, as youll see, came to rest hanging over a small rock bridge which cross's over a small brook where the engine of the vehicle as well as other debris came to rest. Both telephone poles were snapped at the base and fell to the ground, one of which was cought under the van.
I was absolutely amazed that the driver, while injured, was able to pretty much walk away from this after seeing all the damage done. I arrived with the first in companies but dont have pics of the active fire in the front end (its a story for another day). The accident is still under investigation, so a cause is unknown at this point.

Here are pictures of my newest project. Purchased in 1968, this Hahn pumper was a factory demonstrator. Powered by a Detroit Diesel Motor, and driven through a 5 speed transmision, it was the pride of thier fleet. It had an 1000gpm pump and 500 gallon tank.
In 1983 it was sent to Hahn to be refurbished. When it returned it had a 750 gallon tank, 95 gpm bypass foam inductor, chrome fenders and a few other upgrades.
In 2000 Chrome wheel covers where added, followed with a white reflective stripe in 2001.
In late 2008 early 2009, the fire company decided it was time to let the chicken run free. My grandfather purchased it and now, its the pride of our collection.
The First two pictures I give credit to the original photographers. I forget thier names, by I think BA00049 can help me.
Cut onion in half and slice thinly put on foil with about 3-4 T. of BBQ sauce and 8 slices of bacon wrap up and put on a grill on medium to high heat for about 20 minutes.
Take half a teaspoon of steak rub and 3-4 T. of BBQ sauce mix with beef. Make 4 golf ball size balls out the bleu cheese, make 4 equal size burgers wrap meat around the balls of cheese. Grill to desired doneness. Serve on toasted bun smothered with the onions and bacon. Have LOTS of napkins on hand!
