Just before 10:15am today, firefighters and paramedics were alerted for a townhouse fire in the 5400 block of Ring Dove Lane in Columbia, MD. The six residents and two dogs who occupy the home have been displaced. One civilian was injured from an accident unrelated to the fire and one firefighter sustained a minor injury. Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
At around 0940 hours, New Castle County Fireboard dispatched a box alarm for a reported house on fire at 1019 Lancaster Ave in Wilmington. The original box consisted of Squad 1, Engine 6, and Skyboom 2. No truck company was available at the time, Ladder 1 was committed to an outside gas leak on the opposite side of town and Tower 2 was switching out into the former Rescue 1 as the tower was out of service again and the reserve Ladder 3 is also out of service, again. Squad 1 arrived, reported a 2 1/2 story, semi-detached, woodframe with smoke showing from the 2nd floor. Deputy 2 (Operations) arrived and assumed command, advising fire extending to the attic, requesting Ladder 1 clear ASAP and also requesting an additional engine company (Engine 5). Companies made an aggressive knock on the fire, limiting it to the room of origin and a small portion of the attic in the original fire building. I got there about 45 minutes after dispatch, so I all I have are aftermath and people shots. First up, the "D" side, fire was in the rear bedroom on this side.
I get prints made of apparatus photo's. My collection is over 25,000. Until recently, I got them done at Walmart without a problem. My local Walmart's have replaced there "older" machines with new ones. The new ones will not let me crop the pictures ? This is necessary with the old pictures that are posted on the web. So I need to find somewhere else to go - got any suggestions ? I live in the southeastern PA region.
High winds cause a large tree to fall on an apartment building. The red cross had to find housing for the 3 families displaced. There were people in all 3 apartments when the tree came down fortunately there were no injuries
If your area has a fireboat station, please add to this thread.
Portland Fire & Rescue station 21 is a new fireboat station on the Willamette river, housing Engine 21 and Rescue Boat 21. The original station housed various land units over the years, but when Rescue Boat 21 was added a few years ago, a new station was needed. There are two separate buildings, the land fire station and the boathouse.

When new fire stations are built in Portland some type of publicly viewable artwork is mandatory.
For station 21, the artwork covers the entire exterior western wall. It represents ripples on the water.

Just wanted to share the sad news that a great fire service innovator has passed with the loss of Tom Sutphen yesterday. A great man and a good friend for many, many years - he will be greatly missed. Condolences to the Sutphen family.

Thursday the 12th will mark the 100th anniversary of Old Lil's first fire call. The Keyser Fire Dept. will be recreating this event by responding Old Lil to the original location of her first fire on Welch Street. The route will take us out West Piedmont from the fire station to Main St. We will travel down town across the tracks and out Mozelle Street towards Welch Street. This will take place at 7pm for all who may want to come out and watch or photograph. Weather permitting."
