  Busy A.M. for Portland Eng. 30 9-7-14
Posted by: Guest - 09-10-2014, 08:17 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (5)

Engine 30 had just returned from a 1 AM garage fire when they were dispatched to a car

rolled over on NE Weidler St. at 112th Ave. On arrival, they reported 2 occupants had

self-extricated but were injured.

We surmised that the mother of a young boy may have been talking on her cell phone

and ran up onto the sidewalk, hit a protrusion of the stone wall, then hit a tree and

the car rolled over onto its side.

She would not get off the phone even to be treated.

Eng. 30's crew had a tough time putting a collar on her.

They finally got her onto a backboard.

Big Fire, Small Building, Portland 9-8-14
Posted by: Guest - 09-10-2014, 07:30 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (4)

Around 18:45 Engine 31 and Truck 7 were dispatched to SE Alder St. for white smoke coming from an outbuilding. On arrival we

found a house that had had a previous fire and was fenced in, so the fence had to be breached before they could pull a line.

There was just some white smoke from a shed.

But when the door was opened, conditions changed a little.

A few shots from the 1-3/4 line seemed to take care of it.

But when the door was opened again . . .

So they knocked it down for good this time.

Even Lt. Danna, Truck 7, got into the act. Smile

  Sanford Motor Truck Co?
Posted by: Aaronw - 09-05-2014, 05:22 PM - Forum: Manufacturer Scuttlebut - Replies (5)

So I just picked up a book on Sanford Fire Apparatus written in 1985. The book ends with the sale of Sanford to Bill Hider, and his plans for the future of the company.

Being on the west coast I am not that familiar with Sanford, but I am under the impression that the company did not survive long after the change in ownership, closing in the late 80s or early 90s. I have run across a few articles from 89-90 that indicate there were some departments left with half finished Sanford apparatus around this time.

Anyway I was hoping that maybe somebody more familiar with Sanford could (with respect to Paul Harvey) tell me the rest of the story (1985-??).

I'll tuck a note into the back of the book for my future reference, so if we have a big fan of Sanford here feel free to ramble on as much as you desire. Smile

Thanks

t took me 3 days to process all the images but it was well worth the effort. The first image is a nice aerial view of the fire building.Initial reports were of volume of fire in the basement. I believe an interior attack was attempted but conditions were such it was abandoned in short order. The fire had quickly spread throughout the entire building. Some significant exposure problems as well. They called for the hi ex foam rig but the fire was way to advanced by the time it arrived. Basically an outside attack with 2 TL, 2 snorkels, deluge rig, handlines and the north side hose wagon 612 was utilized as well. Also got a shot of the new battery rig 6-3-9. Did some experimenting with some black and white images and was very pleased with the results. The photos are in chronological order and coupled with the previous video give a good idea of the progression of the fire.

This first image was on my initial arrival

  Acquired Structure Live Fire Training
Posted by: Guest - 08-31-2014, 07:05 AM - Forum: All Other Photos - Replies (10)

August 25, 2014 - Castle Rock, Colorado Firefighters spent the morning conducting live fire training in an acquired home.  The morning sessions focused on "resetting" the fire through transitional attack.  Those evolutions were filmed inside and outside the structure and recorded with thermal imaging cameras.  Vent Enter Isolate Search (VEIS), interior attack, primary search and vertical ventilation techniques were also practiced.  Once all of the interior rooms had been burned out, the structure was allowed to become fully involved for demolition purposes.

Burning off the last room...
