Around 6PM on Jan. 24, Portland Eng. 11 was dispatched to a house fire at 10808 Idleman Rd. in Clackamas county. I was at Sta. 7 so I hopped in with Batt. Chief 3. When we arrived there was a 5" line stretched out of sight up the hill so we had a long walk to the fire.
At the end of a steep, narrow, downhill driveway there was a large 1-story house well involved. Eng. 11's crew was in the rear hidden by heavy smoke.
I kept watch on this cellar window, anticipating a flashover and I was not disappointed.
I saw fire at the B/C corner that turned out to be the gas meter.
Portland BC3 found Eng. 11 and managed to get the line away from them.
On Jan. 22 around 3PM Portland Dispatch started to get calls for a house fire in Gresham and they transmitted a box. Shortly after the Gresham companies arrived they ordered a 2nd alarm for a 2-1/2 story house with heavy fire showing from the C side. Truck 71 opened the roof as the other companies stetched lines and knocked the heavy fire down.
Portland Eng. 31, Truck 2 and C3 responded on the 2nd alarm, along with other Gresham companies.
Portland C3 helping with a line.
A large propane tank had been involved.
Portland C3 still helping.
Checking for hidden fire with the T.I.C. (Thermal Imaging Camera).
There was minor extension to the house on the right.
Looking east. Gresham C7 (SUV on the left) is Command.
Question to the experts. This ex-FDMH Mack CF is for sale in the Chicago area, and clearly has an unusual pump panel. Futhermore, it's described as a "double pump." Anyone know what the story is?

It is with much sadness that we are hearing about the passing of Honorary Member Jack L. Slagle. The fire service has lost a true friend today. Godspeed to you Mr. Jack. Our prayers are with his family and friends.
...From what I was told the fire involved the chimney and wood burning stove in the basement, and the fire ran up to the attic. Make no mistake it was bitter cold, several degrees below zero. It was tough to do anything. Finally got some shots of the new rig working. This was a done deal in very short order.
