The wind was wreaking havoc on firefighters along the Colorado Front Range yesterday. Around 14:00 Littleton & South Metro Firefighters were dispatched to a possible structure fire at 10046 Strathfield Lane in Highlands Ranch. First due Engine 17 sized up heavy smoke showing from the rear and the roof. They pulled a 1 3/4" line to the front door when one of the firefighters went down with a knee injury. The injured firefighter went down at the front door and was removed to safety across the street. He was transported to a local trauma center. Engine 15 laid a supply line and attempted to push inside with 17, when they sounded the floor flames broke though. A defensive attack was declared and high winds rapidly pushed the self venting basement fire to the upper floors and attic on the charlie side.
At 8am West Douglas County Volunteers were dispatched a reported house fire on Cathedral Rock Drive. Automatic aid from South Metro, Littleton & Jackson 105 was also requested on the initial dispatch. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke showing from the roof. An interior attack was initiated and crews found a working attic fire. The nearest water supply was several miles away which required a tender shuttle. Crews worked inside for around 20 minutes before flames self vented from the roof and were wind driven. A withdraw order was made and defensive ops began.
Talk about a scary day in the fire service boys...
Washington Park, IL. Fire Dept. called to a working house fire, with 1 Fire Fighter responding. Mutual Aide arrived on scene approx. 1/2 hour later. I tried posting the link, but I'm unable to.
Sitting in my office downtown this afternoon, waiting for a 4 p.m. conference call, when BCFD Dispatch alerted units for a reported explosion and fire on N. Lakewood Avenue, about 2 miles from my office. I couldn't really leave, so I went up to the rooftop parking garage to check the smoke condition, it was pushing pretty good. Unfortunately I "hemmed and hawwed" before finally going. When I pulled in about a block away, most of the fire had been extinguished but there was still a decent amount of smoke showing. Then, as I started to shoot, I was getting a "card Error" message on my D7000. So I pulled out the iPhone5S and grabbed a few quick shots, then took the camera battery out which solved the issue. So, ended up with some decent shots, left the scene as the hard rainfall started coming down and made it back to my office for the 4 pm conference call.
Shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, Baltimore City Fire Dispatch alerted units for a reported rowhouse fire with explosion at the intersection of N. Lakewood Avenue and Jefferson Street (Box 51-18) in East Baltimore. BCFD Medic 24 was the first arriving unit on the scene and reported heavy fire in an end of the row dwelling with an apparent explosion and possibly civilians trapped inside. Engine 33 and Battalion Chief 1 arrived moments later and the Chief requested a Working Fire Dispatch. Units were limited to defensive operations due to the volume of fire and explosion. Multiple handlines were deployed and as firefighters extinguished the fire from outside, they searched exposure buildings. A child who was reportedly walking home from school and passed the structure as it exploded was injured and treated at his nearby school before being transported to an area hospital. Two adults were also transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries. Firefighters tragically located a deceased child under the rubble.
I remember finding the current Wear abouts of the "Spirit of Louisiana" Ex FDNY engine 283 to a volunteer company outside Long Beach NY, but I can't remember which one, can anyone shed some light on that?
good Buddies of me want to built an resin 1:87 model of the Ward LaFrance 750A Pumper.
But they can't find any photo from the roof configuration of the pumper body.
Since a lot of these pumpers gone into civil use after there military career, I have the hope that someone in this group can post or send the photos we need.
