Chicago IL Still Alarm December 5, 2013

Hey all,

I don't luck out too often and be in a great spot (or what you think would be a great spot) for early operations at a fire. However, this past Thursday I was relaxing at my parents, visiting, watching Emergency! and heard sirens. Decided to figure it out after I saw the 21st Battalion go by. I ended up following Truck 50 into the scene, which was 1.5 blocks away...unfortunately for me, Engine 129 knocked the fire really quick.

Anyway, here are the photos of what I did manage to get. Not much to see due to the quick knock of a one room bedroom fire.

This is right after I parked and walked around the corner. Fire was in the 9000 block of South Bell

The time between the above photo and the below photo is about 3 minutes.

  Centennial, CO House Fire 12/9/2013
Posted by: Guest - 12-10-2013, 02:49 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (11)

Around 17:30 Cunningham & South Metro Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 5111 South Olathe Way.  First arriving Engine 62 declared a working fire in a two story single family dwelling and conducted a 360.  The 360 revealed a walkout basement and heavy flames venting from the first floor, Charlie side, auto exposing the second floor.  An 1 3/4 was advanced inside and Engine 63 completed the water supply.  A back up line was taken inside by Company 63 and South Metro Medic 46.  The fire was quickly darkened down but there was quite a bit of extension.

Air Wagon 1 from Fire House 47 at the Fire Acadmey/ Fire Shop complex. Air 1 is always staffed with one FAO Fire Apparatus Operator. Air 1 makes all working fires, High-Rise alarms, tech rescues, and Haz-Mat alarms for Air Compressor-Light-Power-Rehab. One of the rather unique designs with this new air wagon is it carries plywood and dementional lumber with battery operated power tools. It responds on all confined space-trench-collaspe alarms with the three Rescues, and Rescue 75 tractor trailer.

The KCFD MSA masks have a KCFD spec UAC quick fill on the PASS alarm/Air gauge. The masks are 45min 4500psi bottles. This design was a direct result of the December 18th, 1999 4th Alarm LODD of highly respected Battalion Chief John Tevdten Car 106 from old Fire House 32. KCFD worked hand in hand with MSA for this change to be made and offered. During the Large Area Search Training LAST it was found this option was desired for RIT operations. At fires the members walk to the rear and the FAO hooks them up and they quick fill off the system. They can also do a traditional bottle fill in the air containment compartment at the rear.

Truck 10 from Fire House 23 one of the many reasons tillered ladder trucks contrbuite to fire ground efficiency.

Pumper 18 in reserve pumper 4. Ladders up two ways off the roof, two section 35ft and 100ft Aerial Ladder.

Truck 10 from Fire House 23 A-B corner to the roof.

This is why real ladder trucks are dry and bend in the middle. Try this with a Quint hahahah

Truck 10 Fire Apparatus Operator, FAO and FAO Tillerman are the roof team. All KCFD trucks split on arrival Capt and Fireman inside and FAO and Tiller or FAO and Fireman to the roof. it is extremely rare to see the midtown and eastside truck companies wear bottles or masks on the roof. They also most often still open up with axes. Nice set of ladder stack tips no power cone fog here!!! One flaw of these tillers is the fly pipe nozzle had to be turned for stowing. This is due to not enough room between the tip and tillerman cab.
