Hey all searching for a 1975 Mack CF that used to be service in Elmont Long Island NY. It may be in a town called Wheatcroft KY.....anyone have pics or leads on the rig?
Every state has an agency dedicated to management of forest fires on state lands. Some like California's Calfire are large fire departments in their own right with a large fleet of firefighting equipment, others are primarily administrative providing training, equipment and fire ground support (overhead, logistics etc), most fall somewhere in between.
CDF / Calfire has a thread of its own, photos of calfire apparatus is welcome for completeness, but lets not turn this into a Calfire part 2 thread.
Local agencies that are a large component in the states forestry resources are also welcome.
In California this would include the contract counties such as Marin, Kern and LA Counties that protect state lands under contract with the state. Many of these are large departments with their own threads so like Calfire lets not create a huge duplication, but they have do have a place in this thread.
In many states, the local agencies provide the bulk of the states resources. Equipment is often provided to local departments under an agreement that in return the department will respond to fires on state land. This equipment is very much welcome.
The Federal agencies (US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, US Fish & Wildlife) are big enough to support threads of their own, so lets focus on the state stuff, but if they have a direct tie (such as an interagency module) they are welcome.
To start off California Department of Forestry / Calfire (to get them out of the way <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )
I have been looking for a while, I picked up this beauty from the original owner, the Freeland Fire Department in Freeland Luzurne county PA. It had a full refurb in 1994 including paint, alcoa buds, 750 gallon tank. In 1997 the 1000 GPM pump was replaced. I can not tell you how well this thing was taken care of, less then 20,000 original miles on the 8V71 detroit. I have alot to learn but can't wait to hit the show circuit in Central PA.
From the Stronach Photo Files is a new addition to the Firebuff-Montreal/Firebuff.org website and will showcase the fireground photographs of Ian Stronach. From 1971 to 2000 Ian took thousands of photographs of fires and fire apparatus in Montreal, the surrounding areas and wherever around the world his work travels took him as the Manager of Fire Protection for Alcan Aluminum, the global aluminum company based in Montreal. Ian also was the Canadian Correspondent for Firehouse Magazine from the 1982 to 1995. Every two weeks From the Stronach Photo Files will present a new series of photographs of a major fire. As we post a new fire scene we will post one of the shots on firepics with a link to the rest of the topic.
The first fire is Montreal, May 18, 1974 - 3rd alarm, Box 3-1273 Delisle and Canning, 607 Chatham Street, rooming house, 4 dead.

here I sit...a holiday weekend by myself with nothing to do til work tomorrow....I thought we’d do some virtual fanning... These 2 shots are from a 2-11 at 550 Grand Ave on October 12, 1995....It looked like the end of the world but was roofing materials with little structural involvement...It’s a good thing I pulled over to get these shots because when I arrived 10 minutes later there was NOTHING left to see....
Here are a few from Fluvanna County which I shot a couple of weeks ago. I thought I had a picture of Co. 1 (Palmyra), but apparently not! Hopefully someone else will post that one. This is the current building for Co. 2 (Fork Union). The Chief told me they hope to break ground on the new station in November.
