  June 9, 2016 Peoria, AZ - Injury Accident, 8600 W. Olive Ave
Posted by: Image7801 - 06-09-2016, 07:18 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (4)

On June 9, 2016 at approximately 11:35 a.m. a large white Dodge pickup truck struck Peoria Fire-Medical Engine 194 in the area of North 79th Avenue and West Golden Lane.  A Peoria Animal Control Officer witnessed the collision and reported it to Dispatch. The Dodge one-ton pickup then turned westbound on Olive Avenue.

Meanwhile, on Olive Avenue...Peoria Police, assisted by a code enforcement officer (probably just blocking traffic) were investigating a separate collision in the 8600 block of Olive.  The code enforcement truck was parked in the westbound lanes with its emergency lights activated, with a Peoria Police motorcycle parked just in front of the code vehicle, also with its emergency lights activated.  The Dodge pickup truck from the hit-and-run on the fire apparatus subsequently struck the rear end of the code enforcement truck, struck the police motorcycle, then landed on it's side.

Thankfully, no police or fire personnel were injured in the crash. The driver of the pickup truck was extricated from the vehicle and transported by ground to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The code enforcement F-150 and police BMW motorcycle both sustained significant damage.  Peoria Engine 194 sustained minor damage to the rear wheel well and aft roll-up compartment door.

The driver of the pickup truck was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Units responding:

Peoria: Engine 191, PMT (Ambulance) 191, Battalion 191

Sun City:  Engine 132

Glendale:  Ladder Tender 157

  Photos of ventulation props
Posted by: ACPD227 - 05-30-2016, 03:33 PM - Forum: Fire Service Related - No Replies

My department has a regional training center located at one of our stations. We are in the process of wanting to build a new ventilation prop. We are thinking on placing it on top of our training tower which has a 1 story section above one of the burn rooms. Some of the things we are thinking about include.

1. Able to change pitch of roof.

2. Flat roof section for flat roof training.

3. Easy to clean up after training is done.

4. Easy to change out sheets of plywood that were cut.

I would like for guys to post pics of ventilation props that their department might have built or bought. If we like your design I may want plans and material list. Thanks for any help you guys may be able to give.

Fire Fighters in RI being called "Terrorist"
Posted by: upstatefire31 - 05-27-2016, 09:51 AM - Forum: Department Scuttlebut - Replies (5)

Central Coventry FD ( RI ) fire fighters were called Terrorist because they display an American Flag on the trucks and hung off the back of the trucks as well.

Fred Gralinski, Fire Dist. Chairman  likened the flags on the trucks to what you see from ISIS ( if you never saw the news... ISIS hangs  flags on there cars n trucks )   He says its Un American to him, feels its disrespectful to our country.

I feel he's Un American!  And to call them terrorist is beyond stupid......These flags have been on trucks since 9/11.......we put them on to show our pride in our country, Our coming together as a country in one of our darkest days ever.......To Honor the 343!!!!!

I myself have put a flag on one of the trucks in my station. It stayed on till the truck went to be refurbished, I took it off and hung it on my wall at home till a yr later on the anniversary 9/11 I hung it back on the truck for a month.  I still have that flag after almost 16 yrs....still mint.....and when I get a house of my own Im going to hang that flag out to remind me of where I live and the day I hung it out to show my support and honor all those who died that day.......If hanging that flag out means Im a terrorist them this country has gone to S%#&!.

  East TN chapter SPAAMFAA
Posted by: BFD1151 - 05-18-2016, 09:39 PM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (30)

This past weekend fellow buff Andrew2340 and I made the trip to Bristol,TN for the first meeting of the newly formed East TN chapter of SPAAMFAA. The meeting was hosted at Joe Gregory's investment business, which was the former Post Office for Bristol (built in 1899, completed in 1901 & on the National Register of Historic Places). Mr. Gregory is very well off financially and started collecting antique fire trucks around 2001. He now has around 45 trucks between his 2 warehouses in Bristol TN/VA and another at his second home in Montana. Here are the rigs he keeps in TN.

1954 Chevrolet 6400/Allegheny

Unknown where this truck originally served

  Google Maps photos

I've been playing around on Google Maps the last couple of days, and know of some places where you can see apparatus, etc. so I thought, why not start a thread where others can see them as well. I'll start off with an odd one; an International/KME Rescue demo sitting at Miller Industries in Tennessee.
