Does anyone have any photos of, or know where photos are, of the Harrisburg show (yet)?

We used to have a member here who photographed the trucks as they were staged outside before move in, but this was a while back.

2 Semi wrecks same spot 7 days apart.
Posted by: ACPD227 - 05-17-2017, 11:41 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (13)

On 5-9-2017 around 06:45 am Fire and EMS units from Southwest Allen County Indiana Fire District were alerted to a Personal Injury crash on Interstate 69 in the construction zone at the Southern Allen county line. A bridge was being replaced and a temporary bridge had been installed to divert traffic. For unknown reasons the semi truck drove through the barricades over a 2 foot pile of asphalt that had been removed. The semi continued down the creek bank coming to rest wedged under and against the new bridge abutment.

Units responding to the scene were

Fire 51 COD

Emergency 255 BLS Ambulance first due.

Engine 351

Engine 51

Truck 57

Three River Ambulance Authority Paramedic unit.

Roanoke Fire department Huntington County Mutual Aid Haz-Mat response for booms downstream.

When Units arrived the driver was pinned in the truck. A Haz-Mat was declared with an estimated 300 gallons of diesel and motor oil running into the creek. The patient was extricated and transported in critical condition. Booms were placed in the creek. at the crash site and several miles away in Huntington county. Sadly the patient was taken off life support several days later.

Fairfax County (VA) Fire Station Fire
Posted by: SrFireOfficial - 05-14-2017, 05:30 PM - Forum: Department Scuttlebut - No Replies

At approximately 12:45 am on Sunday, May 14, 2017, Fairfax County (VA) Fire and Rescue personnel assigned to Fire Station 26 (Edsall Road) were alerted by the station’s fire alarm system to an active fire in the rescue company’s apparatus bay. After all personnel were accounted for, active fire suppression operations were initiated as well as the request for a first alarm to FS26 and a subsequent second alarm was struck.

It appears that the fire originated in the cab of Rescue 426 (the numeral 4 designates it is from Fairfax County in the National Capitol Regional Response Plan), spreading to the rest of the vehicle and eventually the apparatus bay.

Station 26 was the third firehouse built by Fairfax County in the 1970’s when it became apparent that volunteers were not going to be able provide sufficient coverage to the rapidly developing and growing county. Station 26’s design was such that the living quarters are in the center of the building and flanked on either side by apparatus bays. If memory serves me that the living quarters of the station were fitted with an automatic sprinkler system. The Edsall Road fire station is home to an engine company, a heavy rescue company that is part of the hazardous materials response team and an ALS transport unit. Also, due to the station’s proximity to the Interstate 95-395-495 interchange, aka “the mixing bowl” and the Newington tank farm, a foam unit is also quartered there, cross-staffed by the engine company as needed. A third bay was added to the “engine side” in the 1990s to house the larger foam apparatus.

Connection between Ottawa Truck and Hahn?
Posted by: Aaronw - 05-09-2017, 11:58 PM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (2)

A local builder Beck used to use both Hahn's 92 chassis and Ottawa Truck's fire chassis.

I have never seen anything to tie Hahn to Ottawa, but as far as I can tell the two used the same chassis. Possibly different under the skin but the cabs are identical. Did Ottawa build chassis for Hahn, or perhaps Ottawa bought the rights to Hahn's chassis when Hahn went under, or maybe they both sourced the cab from the same third party? (TCM seems likely if that is the case).

Anyway I've always been curious about that as the cab has a very distinct look, no way you can mistake it for any of the other 80s box style cabs.

Kern county was a good customer of Beck using both Hahn and Ottawa chassis.

I believe this is an Ottawa, as Kern County's Hahn chassis Becks seem to have been canopy cabs.

 Rosenbauer Feedback
Posted by: Will - 05-08-2017, 06:03 PM - Forum: Manufacturer Scuttlebut - Replies (6)

My dept is currently working specing and pricing a new walk around heavy rescue. Our truck committee has met with 4 manufactures so far, one of them being Rosenbauer. I'm looking for feedback on how well built of a truck they are. There is only 1 Commander Chassis truck in our area so its hard for us as a truck committee to get much feedback on the trucks and the company. We've looked at them the last 2 years out at FDIC and for the most part, have liked what we have seen. We've also spoken with other firefighters at FDIC about them, getting mostly positive reviews. Obviously, they are going to be like any manufacture and have their lemons or bad builds. The more feedback I can take to the rest of the committee the better we will be.

Thanks.

Visual DIfference Between Pierce Impel and Velocity?
Posted by: TacSupport1 - 05-06-2017, 10:20 PM - Forum: Manufacturer Scuttlebut - Replies (4)

How does one tell the difference between the Pierce Velocity and Impel, cosmetically (besides the obvious nameplate underneath the windows of the front cab doors) If I remember correctly, the Impel used to come with round headlights, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
