  Miami Dade apparatus
Posted by: Juice - 05-05-2017, 05:34 PM - Forum: Department Scuttlebut - Replies (10)

I saw a video today that features Spartan/LTC's refurb centers. In the video it showcases a new Miami Dade reurb, which makes me wonder now; what does their fleet consist of? I can at least account for these-

Rosenbauer Commander pumpers

Pierce Quantum Pumper refurb

2 Pierce Arrow XT PUCs

2 Pierce Velocity towers, 1 rear mount and 1 mid mount

6 Sutphen SP 70 aerials

1 Sutphen SPH 100'

1 E\-One 75' Quint

1 LTC 75' refurb

How many ALF 75' remain?

How many Spartan/Rosenbauer 75' remain?

I know there are several other 1 off pieces such as the Quantum tender. As you can see, several different manufacturers, and of those, several different models. Anyone know the reason for such a variety recently? Normally it would be for the sake of studying apparatus/manufacturer performance for future purchases, but the apparatus are so different among the fleet, I don't see how they could possibly retrieve much data from any of them.

Cool story.

They stepped up to help a familiar face they're used to seeing in emergencies.

  S&S Fire Apparatus Company?
Posted by: Aaronw - 04-30-2017, 12:50 PM - Forum: Manufacturer Scuttlebut - Replies (8)

We used to have somebody on the site with some close knowledge of S&S.

The company shut down abruptly in late 2008 under a cloud of rumors. The last I heard their new parent company shut them down for not being profitable enough (not losing money, just not making enough profit). I was just wondering if after nearly 10 years any further info on their demise had been disclosed.

Also curious if there was a sort of successor to them as sometimes occurs when a company fails and a number of ex-employees join together to start a new business.

First off, I am not nor have I ever claimed to be a photographer. The following 9 photos are poorly framed, mostly due to crowds but also my artistic senses. I'm only posting these because 1958 FWD asked so nicely.

Last Saturday the local Boy Scout Troops were having a EXPO and Camp out at Floyd Lamb Park. On hand was the City of North Las Vegas with their Explorers Post doing training on the use of the Jaws of Life. They also had one of the Explorer Posts Engines there. This Engine use to be one of the Reserve Units.
