September 27, 2015 2-Alarm Apartment Fire Baltimore City, MD
Posted by: BCFDphotoman - 09-27-2015, 02:59 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (9)

Around 1015 this morning Box 53-41 went out for a reported apartment fire in the unit block of North Woodington Rd. in the Edmondson Village section of west Baltimore.

A few of the first alarm units were out of service training. First arriving units called a working fire followed by a second alarm immediately.

One unit on the third floor was involved in the 3-story garden apartment. It quickly went into the roof and burned through the entire roof of one section involving about 10 units. It was brought under control within two hours. 2 civilians were transported to the hospital with minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

Here's a few shots before I edit the rest of them for my website:

I got tied up with an engine leading off from a hydrant and had to grab a parking spot and walk about a block and a half.

Here's my first shot as I approached the scene with the first in units:

  Portland's Longest Serving Firefighter
Posted by: Guest - 09-23-2015, 12:28 PM - Forum: Fire Service Related - Replies (9)

A Portland Firefighter, Ethan Averitt Reed, retired last week, on Sept. 19, 2015.

"That's nice" you may say, but many U.S. firefighters retired last week.

"Yes", I say, but how many were active firefighters driving a busy, downtown engine company

for 50 years, 1 month and 11 days?

That must be a mis-print. Don't you mean 30 years?

No, 50 years - FIFTY  YEARS.

Here are some photos of him at some recent fires.

At 05:30, 5-1/2 hours into his 50th year as a Portland firefighter, Ethan Reed

drove Engine 1 to a 3-alarm fire at the old Osborne Hotel at 205 SE Grand Ave.

9-19-2015 Las Vegas, NV TPC Golf Club Maintenance Shed Fire
Posted by: nozzleman - 09-19-2015, 11:37 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (9)

At around 10:27 am this morning Las Vegas Fire and Rescue was paged out for a structure fire at the TPC Summerlin Maintenance facility, 1750 N. Rampart Boulevard. Rampart Blvd and Vegas Drive. Before I left the house I heard the first couple of Engine Companies let fire dispatch know that they had a working fire and that there was a heavy smoke condition in route.

As I was sitting and waiting for a green light at Charlston and Valley View this is what I saw to the North-West of my location.

Heading West on W. Charleston I saw this about three miles down the road.

  Changeable Unit/Rig Numbers
Posted by: derry86 - 09-16-2015, 01:37 PM - Forum: Photo Requests-NO IMAGES IN THIS FORUM! - Replies (4)

Hey all, looking for ideas for being able to rotate our rigs but keep the number the same as the station.

There are a few out ways out there, from the $$$$ (BEMS old system) to the simple.

Can you guys supply some pictures and ideas?

Thanks!

9/12/15 Bridgeport, CT - The box was transmitted by fire alarm shortly before three a.m. for the report of a vacant dwelling fire in the area of Stratford and Hollister Avenues. Firefighters from Engine 6 could see the fire from their quarters as they turned out. Battalion two arrived reporting a two and a half story, wood frame with heavy fire on the second and third floors. Companies went defensive right away deploying multiple hand lines, two multiversals and the tower ladder. The fire was knocked down in about an hour to bring under control. The cause of the fire is suspicious.

I saw on the Pierce Flickr site that Jacksonville's new E1 has a different look then the other new units, with a black stripe and gold leaf lettering and accents. Does anyone know why this is, anniversary scheme, other special reason?

Back to Back Pin-ins, Portland, 9-6-2015
Posted by: Guest - 09-09-2015, 01:23 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (2)

At 12:44 Engine 7 was dispatched to an MVA at 112th Ave. and Market Street.

They found a vehicle up against a telephone pole with the driver pinned in so they called for Truck 7 for extrication.

They removed doors and the roof for access to remove the driver.

At 13:14, as they were picking up their tools, they were dispatched to another pin-in on a junction ramp from I-84 to I-205.

Access was complicated because they had to go north on I-205, turn around at Sandy Boulevard and go back south on I-205.

When they reached the road back to I-84, they had to go north again, against traffic, to reach the scene.

2nd Pin-in at 13:14.

You can see an earlier rollover accident up against a tree behind Eng. 12.

The driver of the van in the foreground was looking at the first scene, lost control, rolled over and two people were pinned in.

Aug 21, 2015. Manufacturing Plant Fire, Senatobia, MS
Posted by: senatobiafire704 - 09-07-2015, 04:39 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (2)

Shortly after shift change, we were dispatched to a working fire at a local aluminum manufacturing plant. The fire was a few miles from our station. This is what we saw shortly after we arrived. The fire was called in by the sheriff, whose office is across the street. The "fire brigade" at the plant had been attempting to put out the fire for 30 minutes prior to the sheriff notifying the dispatchers. They used a total of 13-20lb ABC extinguishers and a wheeled extinguisher prior to our arrival.

The building was not sprinkled (built prior to codes being enacted); however, the paint room was sprinkled. The sprinklers proved to be very ineffective on this fire. Ended up laying a 3" into the building and coming off it due to the length of the fire from the nearest pumper, etc.

Thankfully, the fire was in a paint area with the exhaust stacks doing most of our ventilation for us. The fire was adjacent to their blast room where a large amount of Xylene was stored and numerous other flammable liquids.

I have some more short videos and other photos that I don't have access to at the moment, but will upload as soon as I can.
