Hartsdale (NY) Working Fire 11-30-15 |

Quick note from behind the camera. A reason why I don't have a lot of "action" shots is because the firefighters of Hartsdale FD stopped this fire dead in it's tracks...literally. I was told, and you can see, the fire was blowing out when they got there, and there was a visible clear line where the fire was stopped. They saved this home from much more extensive damage by their excellent teamwork and coordination of resources. I got there a couple minutes after knockdown, so not much action to shoot.. With that said, thoughts and prayers are with the family who called this home home.
I'm having trouble uploading these photos right now to this site and Photobucket to show here, so the photos can be seen here:

This afternoon, I had the opportunity to photograph the fleet of the Shepherdstown, West Virginia FD. A very special thanks to Chief Morgan and his firefighters for their assistance in getting these shots.
Shepherdstown, WV is located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, located on the Potomac River about 1 hour outside of Washington, DC. It borders Maryland.
The Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department is the oldest in the state, founded in the 1700's, along with Shepherdstown. Their first due consists of a dense downtown main street, and dense area of houses built in the 1700's and 1800's. The district also includes a major university, hundreds of acres of Revolutionary War battlefields, and agricultural properties. They also provide EMS.
They raise all their own money for capital expenditures, such as apparatus purchases, via community fundraising, such as bingo, game dinners, and their famous apple butter.
They are a very proud, and progressive department. They are an all-volunteer department, with 7 live in members. The only career person is the Paramedic provided by the County to them.

Here are some of the photos I got, hope you enjoy.
**EDIT** Had to remove the photos because PhotoBucket is attempting to extort it's members with crazy fees to share a photo on another site and this site doesn't support direct uploading of the size files I have. I'll try to repost these photos on this thread, starting with the newest deliveries. And you can also find more photos of Shepherdstown FD on my

Technology is moving fast.
I've been out of work since August with a torn rotator cuff which was surgically repaired in mid-October. What is one to do while not really being able to do anything?
Buff from your couch.
There is a new service from Twitter called Periscope http://www.periscope.tv that allows anyone to broadcast themselves to anyone who wants to watch. The majority of this is people gabbing on and on about nothing, but there are some who have integrated the service into their buffing routine, which has opened up some interesting opportunities. I was able to be in Detroit for Devil's night between the various "scopes" and the Broadcastify stream for the department radio, and have had an uncensored front row seat for the Paris attacks and last night's Chicago Riot.
To give you an idea, here is a link to a user called Alex-fire chaser-he catches a lot of work in Detroit, and there are archives from the past 24 hours of what he has broadcast. https://www.periscope.tv/lwnloud
I'm thinking this might be something people are interested in, and might set up a page to feature the various Scopers' feeds. For now, I figured I'd share a new angle on a very old hobby.

1978 Hahn 1250/750 Ex-Bryn Athyn, Pa. |

Many of you know that I have the 1958 FWD ex-Bryn Athyn, Pa. The FWD was replaced by a 1978 Hahn 1250/750 (yes, "the yellow one".) In 2007 the Hahn was replaced with the Spartan/Toyne pumper, and the Hahn was sold to a member of the community who barely touched or used it, and allowed it to remain outdoors for the last 5+ years...never started it and obviously never moved it. A few weeks ago, the family contacted the fire company, to see if they knew who the guy was "that had the FWD" (didn't know I was a member) to see if I'd be interested in the Hahn. So the fire company president forwarded their information to me, and I contacted the family. We conditionally agreed to a deal pending our inspection of the truck and ensuring it would run and drive. We did get it running last sunday, I'm sure many of you saw the videos on my facebook page. For those that did not, with a set of fresh batteries, about 20 seconds of electric fuel primer run time, and two blasts of ether, she fired right off, and after 40 seconds you never would have known she sat dormant for 5+ years. We let it run for 20 minutes while we aired up the tires and inspected the brakes and the chassis components, and then drove it around the large property several times. She ran like the champ she always was, and we contacted the owner and agreed to the deal. We are now in possession of the title. She is currently located in Bucks County but will be moved to a temporary location near my house in Hellertown tomorrow (sunday.) We hope to secure indoor storage in the near future.
Not only do we have the truck that replaced the FWD, I now have the truck that I went on my first call on when I was 16 as a junior (alarm system...) and also the truck I trained on as a driver, and also drove to my first run as a driver (another alarm system) and drove to my first job as a driver.
