  Buffalo, NY 2nd Alarm
Posted by: sparky - 12-13-2015, 05:01 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (3)

Buffalo firefighters responded just before 1 P.M. to 55 Nevada Street after receiving several calls reporting a structure fire. First in crews reported heavy fire in a 2 story wood frame with a similar exposure building on the #4 side. They also reported that there were downed electrical lines across the street in front of the original fire building. These lines delayed firefighters from attacking the fire for several minutes. The original fire building partially collapsed and the fire also extended into 53 Nevada. Damage was estimated at $100,000 to 55 Nevada and $80,000 to 53 Nevada. The Red Cross was called to assist.

CCFD OPEN HOUSE: BIKERS AGAINST CHILD ABUSE
Posted by: nozzleman - 12-12-2015, 10:59 PM - Forum: All Other Photos - Replies (2)

Six times a year the Clark County Fire Department holds a open house and a different Station. In October they had the Open House at Station 16 on Flamingo. Today the Open House was held at Station 23 on Alexander just west of Lamb. Now this area is Technically North Las Vegas but the County provides Fire and Police Services.

Over the past few Open House I have noticed that a Biker Group has been around for every Open House. They are known as BACA or Bikers Against Child Abuse. This time I took the opportunity to take a few photos of them and was very lucky to get a group photo of these men and women.

They are like the The Patriot Guard Riders, except they help and offer support to the children and victims of Child Abuse.

Need adivce on a new camera.
Posted by: Guest - 12-11-2015, 01:06 PM - Forum: Photography Discussion - Replies (1)

After taking some time away from fire photography I've decided to jump back into it. I recently moved and my old camera is no where to be found.

I am now faced with buying a new camera.

My old camera was a Canon PowerShot S5IS, which I'm pretty sure is considered point and shoot, and I would like to make the jump to DSLR. I have been looking at reviews and comparisons of cameras lately and have come to like the Nikon D3300 bundle(Camera,bag,18-55mm,55-200mm) very much. But before I invest in a new camera I want to make sure it will do what I would like it to do and I'm hoping some fire photographers could lend a little bit of their knowledge and experience to me as I am still very green at photography in general.

1) Will the Nikon D3300 do night time scene photos well? Are there accessories I should be looking at that would help with this? Night time scene photos have always been my struggling point.

2) How do other fire photographers protect thier camera equipment when it is raining or snowing during an incident? I've noticed that most cameras do not have weather striping so my thought process is water will get inside and destroy the camera. Because im in the Midwest now, will extreme cold temps be an issue as well? I used to get my camera wet in the rain and snow at scenes before but I would wipe it off and go, it's never been something thats crossed my mind before.

Any advice or help is appreciated.

12/05/15 57 Heckel St. Belleville NJ 5th alarm
Posted by: signal29 - 12-10-2015, 11:29 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (12)

I took a quick trip down to north Jersey last week and caught this 5th alarm in Belleville.

12/05/15 Belleville, NJ - The second house fire in a week destroyed another dwelling in Belleville. Police officers arrived on scene to find smoke and fire coming from the second floor. The started evacuating the occupants of the first floor as firefighters arrived. The fire gained considerable headway as firefighters prepared to battle the blaze prompting transmission of multiple alarms for mutual aid. The second floor soon became fully involved as multiple hand lines and master streams worked to darken down the fire. Firefighters also used three ladder pipes to help bring the blaze under control around twelve thirty. Two families were left homeless, but no one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
