West Haven firefighters caught this fire in the middle of rush hour this morning (8:30)on Rt.1. The wood frame building under renovation was a total loss. The fire went to a third alarm bringing most of the city's resources to fight the fire.
I recently acquired this Crown pumper from the Willcox Rural Fire Department in Willcox, AZ (approx 90 minutes north of the Mexican border). The truck, Crown F1808, was originally purchased by the Avalon City Fire Department, Avalon, CA, which happens to be on Catalina Island. Once the truck was declared surplus by Avalon approximately 5 years ago, it entered private ownership, and was used for parties and such. When that individual was able to purchase another Crown, he put her up for sale on eBay, where she was purchased by the department in Willcox. After about 3 years, Willcox made the determination that the truck was not being utilized enough for their specific needs and area, so they offered her up for sale.
She is presently being watched over by a family friend in southern AZ where some PM work and new steer tires are getting installed. She appears to be in good mechanical shape (keeping fingers crossed), but a more thorough check needs to be done before any major driving takes place. Once that's completed, it will be time to check on some paint.
Eventually she will make the trip east and join our other Crown, F1627, and be out on the muster circuit before too long.
The Chicago tribune does a historical series of photos from their archives. This one happens to be about the former Commissioner Arthur Seyferlich who was very influential in the early 20th century. There are some very good quality fire scene photos from the same period. http://galleries.apps.chicagotribune.com...-pictures/
Steve got there before I did; I was out with friends and saw the air bottle truck hauling down Lake Shore Drive - was a 2-11 at that point. Didn't see the escalation until I got back up to Skokie then had to hustle myself back down to Brighton Park (should've taken a different route than I did, too.) I got a few shots at least and my fellow 5-11 Club guys kept the guys hydrated in the humidity.
I was listening to the audio from the seaside boardwalk fire and heard them call for a fast company. What is that in the seaside area? Is it like a rit team?
Gresham Fire was dispatched to the scene of an auto accident with reports of a car into a tree. Upon arrival engine 75 called for a pin-in, and requested Life Flight.
Life Flight went in route but had to turn back due to weather.
I like the panorama format. Although it is most often applied to landscape photos, I think it works well on some fire photos. At a fire I seldom think about it, so I crop some images to fit the panorama format.
I call them Pseudo Panoramas and here are 3 examples. If you have any, please add them to this thread.
Raising the stick at a 5-alarm fire.
Getting ready to throw a 45-footer at a 2-alarm fire.
I was at the 4-11 last night and realized that I should invest in a pair of boots for when I'm on scene. What brand do you recommend and what do you like about that brand versus other brands? THANKS, folks!
