  Night Fires
Posted by: grubber33270 - 08-26-2013, 11:48 PM - Forum: Photography Discussion - Replies (14)

As Most of you have probably seen from my Photos of night fires I really could use some help. I have a Cannon EOS Rebel XTI. and I love going to fires and all, but for the life of me cannot get the same great quality photos as most of you. I have seen photos where you can literally count the eyebrow hair on  a firefighter even when he is wearing his mask, its insane. Well anyway back to the question. what are the best settings for night fires I know it varies by how much light there is on the scene, but lets start out with at the beginning when there is not much for scene lights set up or street lights around. what would be the best settings to go with.  Every now and then I get lucky but I just returned from a fire I took like 75 photos, I deleted about 50 of them, it was that bad. any help is appreciated thanks.

Mahanoy City (PA) Fire Dept Station Fire Aug 24, 2013
Posted by: engine216 - 08-24-2013, 10:54 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (9)

I didn't really know where to post this at, so I decided to try here.  Around 4:00am this morning the Mahanoy City Fire Department in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania was dispatched for a smoke investigation in the borough.  (Mahanoy City has 5 separate fire companies in the town).  The police and a fire chief arrived at the fire station of the Washington Hook and Ladder Company to find their 1993 Simon-Duplex ladder truck on fire and it quickly went to the second alarm.  The ladder truck was a total loss and the company lost all of their equipment and the station was heavily damaged.  The Washington Hook and Ladder Company placed their truck in service two years ago when they bought it used and it replaced a 1973 American LaFrance.

The kicker of the whole situation was that the Mahanoy City Fire Department was host to the 59th Annual Schuylkill County Firemen's Convention this week and the parade was today.

The Washington hook and ladder of Mahanoy City is accepting donations.

You can send the donation directly to the Washington Hook and Ladder. The Post Office will hold the mail. the address is:

35 East Mahanoy Ave

Mahanoy City PA 17948

On my way to grab some sand for a patio project i noted the odor of smoke and saw IHBVFD Fire one screaming past me so I thought i'd turn around and see what was up. Im glad I did. Saw a header from the area of Banana River Drive and Wimico Dr. Noted a SFR with heavy smoke and fire thru the roof with 2 lines off of the first arriving engine. Full Still assignment was Engine 56/District 56 (Shift Commander)/Fire 1(Chief of Department)( From IHB-Engine 62/Truck 63/Rescue ??/District 60 from Brevard county and Engine 55 from Satellite beach. Stayed long enough to see the scene go defesive due to the work i had to do at home but caught a few pics.

  Pierce DashCF Question????
Posted by: Droopydogg - 08-24-2013, 10:04 AM - Forum: Fire Service Related - Replies (9)

Hello all,

My department is putting together a spec committee for a new areial tower. Admin is looking for a rearmount but we have issues with height requirements. They also want to stick with Pierce and i'm looking at suggesting the Dash CF Chassis. Seeing the demo straight stick and the drawings I think it would be a good platform for our tower. I know it has been out for a little over 2 years and i'm looking for pros and cons, maintanence issues and bugs/other issues of the chassis. I know there have been a few delivered and appreciate any help that you all can provide.

Thanks,

2013 PA State Fireman's Parade Photo Location Info
Posted by: Guest - 08-24-2013, 02:43 AM - Forum: Fire Service Related - Replies (12)

Hello all,

I am one of two photographers that have been put in charge of the photography for this years Pennsylvania State Fireman's Parade in West Chester on September 28. As some of you may know the photo area's in the past years have been shut down by judges and such. This year it will not happen, the posed photography area will be in the registration lot at 931 South Matlack Street in West Chester. I ask that if you are coming to the parade and would like to get posed photos that you allow myself to pose the rigs and shoot quickly so we can keep everything moving along. The registration begins at 6:30AM and goes until 11PM. I hope to see you all there!

  Headlights

Guys

The two depts I work for have the old style sealed beam headlights. Any recommendations for better quality replacement headlights? I know there are options out there for HID, but what I've seen, they are very expensive.

Thanks!

Gold Coast Airport , Australia: Exercise
Posted by: Guest - 08-22-2013, 11:06 PM - Forum: All Other Photos - Replies (7)

On Wednesday at Gold Coast Airport held their emergency exercise. I was able to cover the event as an airport staff members and amateur photographer.

full set.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/coghilla/se...181869170/

The exercise was supported by the law enforcement agencies and fire services, plus all the other when dealing with an international airport. It was cool not being a live fire so many additional things wee added, like the smoke, which was really cool.
