In the 40 and 60 series the last number is the battalion that it is assigned to. They don't rotate the stations that they run out of anymore but each month a different company is assigned to each unit and runs it in when it goes in service.
So the 40,50 and 60 series units are what would be called "jump companies" as the Engine or Truck company members that they are located with would "jump" on the ambulance if called for. Since the Engines and Trucks run with 4 men and the Med Units run with 2 men do two of the Engine or Truck men stay at the station if a 40,50 or 60 series ambulance gets called for or do the remaining 2 men follow the ambulance to the scene on the Engine or Truck company ? Thanks for the information.

I'm sure that goes over like a fart in church....

Just the 2 firefighters go on the medic. The rated men don't have to ride it (Driver and officer). The company is out of service until they get back.

On the 50 series(Bariatric units). Wherever they are assigned, that company goes out of service with it. Usually the whole crew goes to have extra manpower on the scene. All we do is load them up and go! A medic unit and EMS supervisor is usually on the scene asking for it so all we do is assist and transport.

This is a little something I put together for Kevin Ryer, "The Hungrybus". Years back Kevin was an auxiliary fireman at BCFD's Engine Co. 2 in Federal Hill.

We're thinking of and praying night and day for you Kevin!
Truck 23 showed up at AES the other day for repairs. Thought I would try out the sunny day and shoot it!
Just read on Statter that Truck 10 Truck 15 and Squad 11 will close and Engine 33 will relocate to Truck 15s quarters and Truck 6 will relocate to Steadman and Rescue 1 will relocate to Truck 6 quarters on Fort Ave. The quote from Chief Clack was a Truck was needed downtown. Makes one wonder why Truck 2 was closed. Also seems odd to relocate the only Rescue Company away from the core of the city, just thoughts.

Stay Safe,

Rick

Rumor is that E26, where the rescue is going, will be the new SOC house. Not sure if there is any rumor as to 26 engine becoming a squad company. Maybe BCFDPhotoguy has some more info since he is assigned there.
I've heard theres a good possiblity of E26 becoming Squad 26... I wonder if they're gonna take the BCEMS and Medic 46(or is it 66?), 51 & 55 and relocate them to steadman and move all the soc stuff to 26 eng with the rescue....

Wow!, that should make BCFDphotoman happy. What do you think Howie?
Why would you put a squad and rescue in the same station?
Makes no sense to pull a Ladder Company from Steadman, then put one back in there....and then relocate the Rescue. How long has Rescue 1 resided in Steadman?

A whole lot of changes in tradition. Hope the moral with the troops doesn't slip away.

The rescue has been there since steadman opened. The city has a history of closing trucks and moving one back to the station. They closed 4 truck and a few years later moved 16 truck in 13 engines quarters.

As for moral, it fading fast. If not all but gone.

Come on Brian, morale has been flushed. They've attacked our pension, our benefits, have gone after our current work schedule. God only knows what they are going to come after next. The sad thing is, nobody in our command staff other than Chief Wagner and Chief Weigman actually care about the rank and file. Stay safe brother.
Sounds just like what's going on in Philly.

Chris, I was holding on to that last string of hope. Lol
I don't understand a year or so ago T-16 was on the bubble now its T-10 whats next years change. Its a shame for T-15 busiest in the city makes no sense. Then there are days like yesterday E-14 goes to AA 31 and E 2 goes to AA 26 and last evening the southeast troops go to Balt Co twice. I would hate to see all these rocket scientist working for NASA

I'm thrilled to death, rumor is they're disbanding Engine 26 and moving all of the SOC people to the new Squad 26 and we have to find new homes along with the other 3 disbanded ones.

53eng? You'd only be 7min from your house roughly!
