I am curious about the DC Reserve Engines. I imagine whichever company is using one still goes by their normal radio designator? If that is the case, has it ever caused confusion on a large incident fireground to see an "Engine Co. 87" that is actually running as Engine Co. 30 (just as an example)? Thanks!
Any idea where RE-78 and RE-87 were originally assigned?

Also, where did the '02 Seagrave from E26 go?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, companies do retain their numbers. In this January 2010 photo for example, one would say Engine 14 is on the plug with Engine 22 in the background.

Reserve Engine 87 (S-119) (that I misidentified in an earlier image as RE-89) was originally placed in service with Engine Co. 5 in Georgetown. Reserve Engine 78 originally went in service just east of Capitol Hill with Engine Co. 18. E-26’s 2002 Seagrave is now reserve Engine 90.

A few images from around town.

Two winter storms hit the District of Columbia in quick succession dumping, first, 24”, then 15” more – a total of 55” for the year so far. This is the most snow since the Winter of 1898-1899.

Scenes like this were common as apparatus was getting stuck and dug out on upwards of 50-per cent of all runs in some parts of town. February 6, 2010
