IIRC, in the contract settled in 1985, manning was reduced on Truck Companies from 6 to 5, and the Aides returned to the BFC buggies. "Lucky" and "Once you give something back" are not accurate. I do get your point, and once something is bargained away it does not usually return. No offense taken or intended in return.



The truck company minimum manpower returning from 4 men to 5 men came at the cost of 2 LODD's (FF Phillips E-10 and FF Matthews E-26) may they rest in peace, and the severely burned and now retired Lt. Joe Morgan (former FF E-26).



The return of the 5th man to the Truck Companies, and the return of the Aides to the BFC Buggies was paid for in blood by the men of E-26 and E-10. It would be disrespectful to be a fireman in the DCFD and not point out that fact to anyone reading this thread.



During the Mayor Pratt-Kelly / Chief Latin years we lost the 5th man and Pumper to all 33 Engines, the 7th Battalion Fire Chief & Aide, the 8th Battalion Fire Chief & Aide, Truck Company #1 (4 LODD's in their lineage) Rescue Squad #4, and the sometimes forgotten E-34 at Saint E's Hospital, all of which have never returned.



Engine Co. No. 3 was also closed and is now back in service.



Like I said above, no offense taken or intended in return. I know what you meant in your statement. FF Phillips and FF Matthews can no longer speak for themselves and those two men along with Ret. Lt. Joe Morgan deserve the recognition for returning some of the manpower to the DCFD after the deep cuts bestowed upon us in '91, '93, and '95.

None taken.I appreciate you taking the time to educating me on your losses and the real reason for the upstaffing. We lost 2 this year in 1 fire and I can only hope that in the future, our guys keep our fallens' memories alive the same way you are with yours.

The first photo is viewing north on New Hampshire Ave NW, just south of M St: Engine 1’s 1969 Ford/Pirsch wagon (S-106) – note the little gold “1” centered above the grill louvers; the ’66 Ward LaFrance may be E-23’s – I notice the low amount of hose left in the bed and the rolled hose on the back step; Truck 3’s 1971 85’Sutphen; Rescue Squad 1’s 1966 Ford N/Bruco.



In the second photo, T-2’s 1966 (?) Pirsch is pointing roughly into where the driveway was of their former quarters, 1181 New Hampshire Ave NW (1879 – 1960). The buildings in these photos no longer exist, save the 8-story apartments at 1246 & 1250 New Hampshire in the background.



The 3[sup]rd[/sup] shot, viewing NE in the 1100 block of New Hampshire, shows Engine 1’s 1961 Pirsch (S-106).



The next couple of views have alternate angles of E-21’s pumper, a 1968 Ford/ Ward LaFrance. These images are in the 2100 block of L St. NW, behind the Savoy Apartments.



Next shot appears to be Engine 5’s wagon, a 1969 Ford/ Pirsch (S-107), facing east on L St. at 21[sup]st[/sup]. All the buildings in this photo still exist, though obscured and altered.



The last photo has Engine 5’s pumper in front of E-1’s quarters 2225 M St. NW. It is a 1965 Pirsch (S-202), the last custom Pirsch pumper purchased by the DCFD.



The image below is from the same era, Engine 3’s 1971 Ford/ Ward LaFrance and Truck 1’s Pirsch in the 200 block of F St. NE. The corner building is now Ebenezer’s Coffee Shop.

[/quote]Any big differences between this one and the other monster Medics they've been getting in? I do like that "Medic 1" is on a placard - should give them a lot of flexibility to move units around but keep them numbered correct.

None that I can think of. They had one of the Hahn/Grove tillers retractored by a Pierce, that is in reserve status.

That piece was old Truck 9. And it was a Hahn/LTI.
