Are you sure thats ths same box, the compartment layout is different on the old one.

YUP



Old Squad 2's box was remounted on the Freightliner Chassis.

Old Squad 3's box was PDA'ed, the box was so beat up that the diamond plate on the floor inside the box was worn smooth from members walking/standing on it.

Old Squad 4's box was flipped when it was running as RS3's squad-wagon, then PDA'ed.

Old Haz-Mat 1 box was a hush / walk-through and PDA'ed.



It does look like the 2000 re-mount of the 1993 RS1 box is shorter than when it was new. It may have been shortened when re-mounted on the glider kit. It was not uncommon for the Reese Hitch to hold up the back of the box towards the end of it's life on the 1993 chassis. When it was new, there was about 3 inches of space between the reese hitch for the boat trailer, and when it was replaced the bo rested right on the reese hitch. The department may have instructed E\-One to shorten the box to avoid the problem of extra weight and overhang.



Chief Byrne may be able to correct me if I'm off a little, but that's how I remember it.

DCFD Squad Wagon Box History?



The squad wagons were easy to distinguish from a distance because the window configuration was different on all of the Ford / E\-One's and RS1 had a Ford / Swab which had steel box instead of aluminum.



RS1 Louisville Ford, the rear fenders were easy to distinguish from a distance, the steel box had two regular sized windows on each side. (affectionately refered to as the sacred cow)



RS2 Louisville Ford, the box had two very small windows on each side.



RS3 Louisville Ford, the box had no windows on either side, the back-step was the only place to observe the sights, unless you tried to look through the window that went between the cab and the box.



RS4 Louisville Ford, the box had two large windows on each side of the box, and the shop built a handi-capped step for them, that rode in the Reese Hitch receiver, and made it easier for the older squadmen to step up into the box.



All of the Ford / E\-One boxes had a pretty high back-step.

This is the old hazmat unit. The Rescue squads had 2 door cabs. The DC fleet is hard to keep track of!

I meant to say that it was the hazmat unit used between the ALF/Beaverbilt and the Seagrave.

R-2 also at Training
Members of all 4 shifts of RS-2 were at the Drill School this past week getting initial drivers training and operations training of the Departments 60 ton Rotator Wrecker. The Wrecker will now be housed at the Quarters of RS-2. A HEavy Lift and Rigging Class will be given the members of RS-2 the week of Sept 28.

The Group Picture is of the Captains Shift. No 3 Platoon
