Thought you guys might be interested in this if you didn't already know, but yesterday while buffing northwest Alabama, I came upon this rig at the Rogersville, AL Fire Department. I thought it looked like an old DC rig, the guys there said it was. It's a 1994 E\-One (1500 gpm), which I know you guys had a couple of, the E\-One S.O.# 13247. Above the windshield, you could see lettering had been taken off that said "Protecting the Capital."
If my info is correct it was orignally assigned to DCFD Engine 16 then, upon the re-opening of Engine 3, was assigned there before they received a '02 Seagrave.

Corrections welcome.

I drove that rig many, many times. Not an E-1 fan, but this rig ran and operated well. Glad to see it has a 2nd life.

Stay safe, Brothers.

Where are the medic and T 14 running out of?

Truck 14 is running out of Engine 31's quarters. Not 100% sure where the medic is.

It's fascinating that the biggest, longest wheelbase rigs DCFD ever had would the the smallest, shortest wheelbase rigs many other departments have ever had. I always wonder why everybody feels the need to buy such gigantic rigs.

Kevin, I was wondering that the hydrant was that close to the intersection and where the job was, why didn't they put the Wagon on the hydrant, instead of dropped the supply line?

Don’t know, John. E-11 laid out from that hydrant; E-28 picked it up. It appears in the image the firefighter is picking up the soft sleeve, but there’s a reducer on the Humat Valve’s steamer and a 50’ piece of 3” going to 28’s intake. I’m guessing that’s still good for 1,000 gallons with a loss of 30 – 35 pounds. Plugs in Adams-Morgan are generally 60 pounds (Note to instructors: don’t correct my math – I am old and insecure).

Image shows E-11 in the 3200 block of Mt. Pleasant Rd NW (same fire as above), September 7, 2011.

It looks like E-11 laid out about 300' of 3" and 28 tried to sleeve the hydrant but it was short. That is why he laid the 3" off the hydrant.
