In addition to their hydrant testing gear, CSU's carry portable pumps and associated equipment. CSUs deploy on a water main breaks to complete a geographical assessment of the impact area, analyzing the effected area and preparing an operational strategy for Battalion and Division Commanders. Additionally, they liaise with related DC agencies.

Chief Byrne did a good job explaining, but here is the official CSU document that was released a few days ago: http://www.dcfd.com/Announcements/2009/CSU...plishments3.pdf

Hey! Is this the new Rescue Squad 2? Check out the seal while this passerby checks out the rest.
(S-607, 1971 Ford C/ Bruco, 14th & Cororan St. NW, c.1980)
I think the new RS2 is almost twice as big. And I like the old style lettering on the rescue; would like to see DCFD return to that as long as they are returning to the old seal.
They have to get a bigger squad so the joy boys can get there big heads inside.

One of the earlier wreckers was this 1979 Ford L/ Swab squad wagon with an 18’ box. S-601 wasn’t in service more than an exaggerated minute when it upended a truck (in background in front of E-10’s wagon) at 4th and H St, NE, 1979.
Great history/pics!!!!!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yourock.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

This is the best thread on firepics about apparatus I have seen. Dcfireman did an awesome job showing the proud history of his department's apparatus through the good and bad. The latest Seagraves are a testament to what can happen if the members don't give up and stay involved in the process.
